29-Day Giving Challenge

Hi everyone! I just joined this site today after reading about it in a magazine. What a fantastic idea! I have a Girl Scout Troop with 8 little girls, ages 9 and 10. Tonight was our meeting so I quick ran out after signing up here and bought the girls each a journal. I gave them their journals tonight and instructed them on how to give 29 gifts in 29 days. Then to help them get started, I had them each make a beaded bracelet to give away to someone tomorrow. The rest of the gifts will be their own ideas. They were so receptive to the idea...lots of hugs were flowing and they were holding the door for each other counting down, "there's gift 1, there's another gift!" The girls are to write in their journal each day what they gave and to who and how it made them feel. I'm so excited to see what they come up with! If anyone has any other ideas on how to get children involved in becoming "great givers"....I'd love to hear them!

That is fantastic. And what a great time of the year to get kids thinking about giving, instead of receiving, too! I look forward to hearing what your Girl Scouts give in the next 29 days...

Oh, how grand. I had a similar response to my journal keeping on Facebook. It was wonderful to see others so willing to start giving, once they have the "excuse".
Good job with the Girl Scouts. You were already making a great effort in their lives. Now you have upped the ante. LOL Please let us know what they report back.

Oh boy, what a day. This giving challenge has given me, not only an awareness of what I give through the day, or how much other people give, but how much giving brings you into the present. How it forces you to LIVE every day, rather than only being…
