Sigh and scrub the who-said-to-paint-em-white walls where the mittened and gloved fingers left prints
Inventory the cabinets, the closets, the halls ... move the Winter to the back, Spring to the front
Give deep of the things no longer needed, the sorta new, the shy of old, the one with good life still in it
Hose off the back porch, the last remnant, the memory of rock salt, dust, yesterday, cold, old
Sigh and slow a bit, think about this wood, these bricks, this family, this love, year after year renewing
Isn't it
Grand, this springtime, this bustle, this sanctuary, this
Home?
Sigh and stop now, take a breath, find that porch swing, that hammock, that
Iced tea so sweet it's like
Gramma made it in the sun with her own hands, glass jar, front porch, just as much a part of this
House today as she's ever been
Sigh and say your thanks, say your prayers, say to yourself
"I am, life is, all is
Good
Here, now."
