As Determined says, networking is very valuable. In my post, on November 1, I mentioned Bob Burg and his CD series Endless Referrals. He also wrote a book The Go-Giver which I highly recommend. I have been doing Cami's Giving Challenge, and I have also been sending note cards to people I see at networking events, etc. like Bob Burg recommends. I find the giving is uplifting, and a number of people have replied to the note cards. There are now several people who may want me to do projects for them, because of my note cards.

Dayz, I can't stress the importance of networking enough. LinkedIn is one of the more popular Business Networking sites. Depending on your field of work, you may want to explore trade-specific organizations and your local Chamber of Commerce is a great source, although to attend functions you must pay for membership.

Thank you for creating this group. I have been searching for a new job since May and though I have a job, I am not able to fully support myself now that I am single again. It isn't as easy as it used to be, now everything is so impersonal and it's hard to show how brightly you can shine on a white piece of paper. Thank you again and I look forward to learning and receiving advice from others! I am open to all the help I can get! Thank you again! Laura

Hello, folks. You'll notice I deleted 'Desperately' from the name of the group - didn't like the negative vibe it was suggesting. If you have a better name for the group, please let me know!

Welcome Stephanie! Not the best market ever for finding jobs, long gone are the days of landing a position on the spot. However, there are many tools of self-promotion and Mary started a "Discussion" thread where you can introduce yourself and job skills. Networking is key and sometimes all it takes is ONE person to take notice of you.

I have been listening to Bob Burg's CD series Endless Referrals. If there is some way that I can post some of my notes from it about networking, I would be happy to share them with everyone. He talks about sending a personal note card after meeting people which helps people remember you and leaves a great impression.

Welcome Jean and Stephanie! Thanks for the offer to help others, while you're looking, Jean. Determined is a recruiter and has offered her support, as well. I have some ideas for how to set the site up, so it will be organized, but please let me know your suggestions, as well. I'll post a discussion by tomorrow, so you all can see what I'm thinking and then jump in with suggestions.

This is an excellent idea My job search has been derailed by Mom's illness and I am needing to get back on track. If group members can share what their are looking for, I belong to several Linked-in groups that I can look for matches on.

Welcome, Chelle! So glad you joined! I know exactly what you mean about your 'time off'. I was fairly stressed out at first, but my dad passed away and my mom moved in with us last year, so the timing was perfect, mom-wise. Then I, too, was able to start volunteering for causes I kept putting off due to work, and started projects around the house. My husband is still stressed, but he's calming down a bit. I'm trying to get him to join 29 Gifts - it really helped me put things in perspective. We get so caught up in our work, we lose sight of all the wonderful things going on outside work. Or at least, I USED to. :-)

Well, I lost track of where I was in round two, which is to say, I wasn't doing a very good job of self-care! I recently had a reading with Mbali. I was very frazzled going into it. Had a lot going on in several directions. Then the house phone sta…
