We were trying to raise extra funds for a mission trip to Mexico, so about 10 families from our church pooled garage sale items at one house and had a huge sale. I know we raised a lot of money, but I think I got the best deal - I bought this antique hutch to go in my art room for just $60.

I like to buy the reuseable grocery bags and use them as gift bags. I especially loved using the pink ones the were for Breast Cancer Awarness. that is a cause close to my heart my mom is a survivor! see my Blog to see what i did with them!

Here is a great idea from my friend Sarah. There is a website theanimalrescuesite.com and by just clicking a button, you can help provide food for rescued animals. There are also other tabs on the site that allow you to provide food for hungry people, free mammograms to low income women, chilren's healthcare, free books, and protection of rainforests....all by simply clicking on a button!

I am asking for advice here.... I have a dear friend who is going through Chemo for breast Cancer. She lost her job right before her diagnosis. She is out of unemployment this month and she has 8 more months of Chemo...every Monday she gets her dose and by wed she is sick....then by Friday she's better and the Monday she's back in.. She has three teenagers. Finding work is going to be a miracle...She is a proud woman... I'd like to figure out how to raise money for her...Not sure how to do it. Ideas?

Hi Kari,
What line of work is your friend in?

Kari,

I think the best thing to do is to tell her amazing story and ask anyone and everyone if they would be willing to donate to the cause. She has an amazing story and the generosity of people can be unbelievable.

I wish you all the best!

She is going through a rough time that is for sure. What skills does she have? Can she do medical transcription? Typing work, basically things she can do at home? I doubt she has enough energy to run a business herself, but if someone needs someone to type up letters for THEIR business, could they give her some? Could you and some of her friends be cold calling etc to search business for her? See if you can't think of something she could do at home, through her church, etc. I work five hours a week, one day a week on Sunday to teach kids. It is a volunteer position, but comes with a stipend. She might be able to do that. Does not pay a LOT but she could also hook up with some that might barter food for her in-exchange for some skill she has. She going to need a lot of support and heart friends for a while. Even after she finishes Chemo she gonna be weak. So plan on say, one year of giving if you decide to gather some friends to help her.

Blessings

Super easy and I am sure many of you have thought of this - but today my give was $50.00 to our local Food Bank - I was able to do it online through paypal. Awesome way to help.....so check out your local foodbank website to see if you can give money online...

I found a cause that some of you might be interested in supporting. CNN is profiling Heroes, people who are doing good in the world. I happened to see the profile on Marie DeSilva, a nannie in LA who is funding a school in Malawi, a small nation in Africa where she grew up. In Malawi 10 people die of AIDS every hour, leaving many orphaned children. Her city had a school that was going to be closed, leaving children without a place to receive an education or mentoring. Marie moved the school to her mother's home and funds it with money from her paycheck as a nannie in LA. Visit CNN.com or Jacarandafoundation.org to learn more. If you're interested you can make a donation on the website.
