Comment by rocken nana wwt on July 13, 2012 at 4:56pm another greener idea. My tomatoberry plant was looking thiner and thinner every day. Finally a friend was over and found a tomato worm. Not very big, but eating lots of the plant. I wanted to spray with something that wouldn't hurt anything else but the worms. I found a hint that said a few drops of dish soap and water and that was all and spray it on. I did that 3 nights in a row. I haven't looked today, but it looked better already yesterday. I have 3 or 4 tomatos setting on and it hasn't hurt them. A TomatoBerry is a new breed that has tomato's shaped like a Strawberry and is a sweeter tomato. I am anxious to try it. I keep giving the fruit a pep talk to get big and ripe fast.
Also another couple ideas on your hair when you wash it, you can put vinegar on for a conditioner and you can put lemon on for blonder hair and even been told to put lemon juice on and go outside and it will lighten your hair. Can't remember if it works. d
Comment by Thia on July 5, 2012 at 7:26pm For greener giving ideas...that's a bit more difficult for me. For my husband & myself, we often opt not to give each other traditional gifts. We do fudge on occasion, My husband started buying tickets to concerts by folk/pop artists that come to town near my birthday. I've given my husband "musical" gifts also. This year it was piano lessons. For my aunt, I've started giving her flowers because she doesn't really want or need anything. For kids, I tend to give books. I hope these may be greener gifts.
Comment by rocken nana wwt on April 26, 2012 at 2:01pm also if you let the pan cool the bacon will gel up and you can just grab the corners of the aluminum foil and throw it all away. It doesn't splatter in the oven and you don't need to turn them over. I can't tell the difference. You can heat them in the microwave when you take a wrapped pkg. out and 50% power for about 45 sec.
Comment by rocken nana wwt on April 26, 2012 at 1:57pm I have been giving to people hints and idea's. Like to hull strawberries, use a straw and go up from the bottom. Then just grab the green on top and put in a compost or throw away. You could feed them to hogs and maybe chickens also. My other big hint is frying bacon in the oven. Turn the oven to 400, put aluminum on a cookie sheet, make sure to go up the sides. Then put the bacon on in slices and it will fry up nice and crisp. It takes 15 to 20 min. to get them done. That depends on how you like your done. Mine I put in for 18 then take some off that are done and put the rest back in the oven for a few. Than I take them off and put them on paper towels or you can use a paper sack to catch the grease. That's what we used when I was growing up was sacks. Another way to recycle paper sacs. I then take the bacon in about 5 pieces and wrap them in wax paper and put them in a freezer bag. When I need bacon for a salad or breakfast, I just reach in and grab one of the wrapped bacon. Living by myself, 4 or 5 pieces are plenty.
Comment by rocken nana wwt on March 30, 2012 at 11:47pm Hi all, I am up for greener giving and living. I recycle, plasatic, papers, magazines either by either by giving to someone else to read or put in recycle. Now I need idea's for greener giving. deb
Comment by sweetpealarson on February 16, 2012 at 4:40pm ok, that is good news. I thought about putting a huge sign on my door. lol
Comment by carelia on February 16, 2012 at 4:24pm sweetpealarson, yes, I had luck with that. :) I did it online. In fact, we had a delivery yesterday - one company delivered (we're in that "it could take 6-8 weeks before everyone knows" transition time so it was not unexpected) but the SECOND company put a hang-tag on the door saying they knew we'd opted out and had contact info in case we changed our minds. Not thrilled with a hang-tag but it's WAY less paper than a book.
Comment by sweetpealarson on February 16, 2012 at 4:18pm Trying to stop the phone books from being delivered. I have called and gone online and they still come. Has anyone had any luck with stopping the deliveries?
