29-Day Giving Challenge

I found this on a package when I was buying holiday candy.

The Legend of the Candy Cane: Sharing the sweetness of the meaning of Christmas.

Jesus Gentle Shepherd,
This cane of red and white
Proclaims the sweet love story
Born on Christmas night.

This cane, you see, when turned around
Begins your name of Love
And now becomes a symbol
Of peace proclaimed above.

The lively peppermint flavor
Is the regal gift of spice
The white is your purity
And the red your sacrifice.

And so this cane reminds us
Of just how much you care
And like your Christmas Gift
To us it's meant for all to share.

This is a special reminder of all the good things around the holidays. I especially remember making cookies, although this is fun year 'round! Thanks for sharing this wonderful legend.

I just happened upon this post and wanted to thank Jan for sharing this legend. I give out candy canes randomly starting as soon as they show up on the store shelves. I sometimes tie ribbons on them and last year on several of them I attached a little card explaining 29 Gifts and they had received one of my 29 Gifts... even though, most days I give out many of them... I also suggested that they in turn "pay it forward" and give some extra smiles and kindness and perhaps a little surprise to someone they come in contact with. I think I may print out this legend and attach it to my candy canes this year!
Thank you again, Jan!
Lynn

My mother and I were invited to her brother's house today for Christmas dinner. I am not in the habit of taking a gift for the hostess and we had been told not to bring anything, but I decided this would be my big give for the day. I stopped at Food…

I think your gift was your willingness to receive from your family. It sounds to me like your giving is wearing off on them - how loveloy!

How exciting to get your medicine necklace! I keep looking at that as a give to myself as well. I send prayers your way for your family - I'm sure your support of them during their time of need is a perfect gift!

Harriet, this is beautiful. You are sharing your faith in God. I like that your love (as well as your daughter's love by her mission work) is being "sent around the world." As the crosses are sentimental to you, you must have received word from God…
