Today, I am writing because of something near and dear to my heart, my nephew,
Zeydan Graner Martinez, who was shot and killed in Puerto Rico exactly one
month ago this week. Zeydan was a 17 year old teenager, an athlete, an
excellent student, with a bright future. He was already accepted to college to
be an engineer, when he abruptly had his life taken away from him.
Zeydan was a kind hearted boy, he was not into “partying”, using drugs or violence. One night, last month, he and his friends offered to do a favor for someone, and they gave a
boy a ride home from an activity in the Plaza in Guayama, Puerto Rico. A man, who is
known for dealing drugs, and had previous charges against him, shot at the boys
(one of them was only 13 years old) and my nephew, Zeydan was mortally wounded.
Now, my sister in law and Zeydan’s father are speaking out against the
senseless violence that is occuring daily on the streets of Puerto Rico. They
have started a movement, Basta Ya! They are speaking out against the violence
and trying to do something positive to make our streets safer for our children.
It is not only occuring in Puerto Rico, but on the mainland here in and around
our world. One need only turn on the news to hear of such tragedies such as the
one that just occurred in Colorado.
Won't you please join me in prayers for peace, non- violence, and for the healing of my family. We have all been deeply saddened by this tragic and senseless incident.

Permalink Reply by Barbara Quin - Prayer Cafe Mgr on July 28, 2012 at 5:56pm Susan, I am so sorry to learn of this tragedy in your family - yes, it certainly seems senseless, but if we can learn from it and create new awareness to help people choose peace over violence, then something good can come from it. We certainly shall join you in prayer for peace for your family and for everyone affected by this and similar experiences. May your family know the Healing Grace and Favor of our Creator, to be guided in ways to bring awareness and change, and to find Wholeness again. And for everyone who is affected by drugs and violence, that the Gracious Hand of the Creator may touch them and help them change their lives, through the refocus of their will to higher aspirations. May they discover a higher calling within themselves to seek peaceful resolutions to discord and to be peacemongers rather than hate or warmongers.
Peace and Love be unto you Dear Friend... thank you for sharing your journey with us...
Blessings to you...

Permalink Reply by Yan on July 31, 2012 at 6:32pm Dear Susan, of course I will pray for sweet Zeydan, young boys and girls in Puerto Rico and all people around the world who are victims of violence. Victims either because they do not control their own acts of violence or because they suffer violence from others. God bless Zeydan's little soul and his family and may God enter the heart of the murderer for this not to happen again. Justice and peace to all.
