Our son Jon's first "we" gift to us with new girlfriend, Carrie-which included a tin of cookies they made together, his dad's favorite spearmint leaves, and a lovely photo of the two of them. So sweet.....

Thanks Lois.....don't know how the heck you came upon this all these months later! Yep, the gift itself was lovely, but sadly on my 60th birthday last March, Carrie told Jon she needed to "take a break", but really meant she was breaking up with him and kept him hanging for several months before the official end of their relationship.
My son was so heartbroken and falling into a major depression from losing the first serious relationship of his life (he was then 30 years old). I was so extremely proud of him for seeking out counseling he spoke to a psychologist for several months and claims he is at peace with what happened. He was such a kinder, softer, more caring person during the time he was with her; something I never even imagined he could be. Now he is slowly returning to a very self-absorbed way of life and I'm afraid it's just one more scar he has sealed over in his life, something that does help him cope, but is not a good way of living from my experience.
I however, took longer to heal......this girl was beyond amazing and I totally thought she was "the one". She claimed she had no regrets about their two years together, but I think she at least owed my son (and perhaps me) a better understanding of what her reservations about the relationship were.
I ripped up the photo in angry, infantile over-reaction. Now that darn basket drives me crazy....a constant reminder of a sad chapter of our lives. I have two ideas for it though; one is to fill it with goodies and give it to my in-laws for a holiday gift, the other to anonymously leave it on the front porch of a family here in our town with the same last name (but to whom we are not related!)
Life is unpredictable and tricky......
XOXO
I love this!
It is wonderful! :o)
