A prize in the football pool

Last Saturday Spain beat Italy in the final of the European Football Championship. This competition between 16 nations lasted 3 weeks and although I am not a great football fan I followed most of it mainly because I had joined the Africa Family Foundation football pool which made the tournament much more interesting for me. I had joined this pool because half of the proceeds of it went to this charity that supports orphans in Kenya and guess what? I became third in the pool winning 57 euros!…

Shelter for a stranded passenger

My 19-year-old daughter Carmen is doing a work practice at Amsterdam airport. She does check-in and boarding of the Easyjet flights. She was working the evening shift this week and a few days ago she rang me up from work with an unusual request: 'Mum, can I bring a stranded passenger home for the night?' European Championship Football

Today the Euro 2012 Football Competition begins. For the next three weeks there will be football matches on nearly every day. The whole nation seems to have football fever. Throughout the country streets are decorated with orange banners, the supermarket hands out football stickers and the bakers sell orange cakes. Inviting strangers for dinner.

Today I invited a family of complete strangers for dinner at my house. Let me tell you what happened. I was scheduled to do volunteer work at the visitor center of a recreational park near my home today. My work started at 12 o'clock and when I arrived at the center the two wardens on duty told me that during their morning round they had spotted a tent near one of the beaches.
