How fortuitous, considering I was just painting a picture of a mermaid! Count me in! Fabulous gifting....

Profile Information

Why I'm choosing to give:
I'm choosing to give because so many people have given to me. I'm choosing to give because I want my children to understand the importance of giving, of caring and sharing and of hope for the future. I am choosing to give because that's how I say thank you for all of God's gifts that he's so graciously given to me.
What I'd most like to receive:
Serenity and to discover something new about myself; to inspire someone.

Day 13: A Piece of Myself

So while I ran around doing all the usual Mommy things, and being the dutiful Coastie wife, and making dinner and cheering like an idiot off my back balcony for my son as he finally learned to ride his bike w/o training wheels....I still don't think that's up to snuff for the challenge.

Sooooo, I am giving you all a piece of myself! I got this questionnaire in my inbox this afternoon and I usually just delete them, but this time, I actually filled that sucker out and decided to post it here for… Continue

Day 12: 6 Years old and Pirate Goody Bags!

My little boy hit the big double "0" 6 yesterday. Six! Who knew I'd make it that far as a parent, much less him getting there with all of his extremities still intact? Considering what a daredevil he is and all his varied attempts at flying, he's still in one piece. That in itself, is a miracle.

Alas, Ian has the unfortunate luck of having his birthday always fall w/in the confines of the first week of "Back to School!" It is routinely a week filled with chaos, confusion, school visits, parent/… Continue

Days 9, 10 & 11: The Big Give, A Total Wash...

Right after I got home here in NY, my local Freecycle group sent out a link to a story published in the local paper about a home here on the island that burned down to the ground. The family consisted of a single mother with 10 kids and their grandmother was also in residence. The firefighters managed to save everyone in the house with the exception of the youngest, a 2 year old child. By the time the firemen reached the toddler, they had inhaled too much toxic smoke and expired. Further details… Continue

Day 9: Road Trips, RAoK's and Gas Station Strangers

Due to my late arrival at home (finally, whew!) and my wanting to sleep off the road dust of the last two days in the car with a 5 year old and an 18 month old and a dog, my post will be short and sweet.

I didn't really think I'd have any gift giving to my name what with spending the last two days locked in my vehicle in motion, but surprise! Gifts can come in small packages and the quickest of interludes.

We spent last night in Charlotte, NC, after driving right through the remnants of Tropic… Continue

Days 6,7 & 8: Do OVER!

Well I admit, I've been noticeably absent the last three days...

Partly due to Tropical Storm/Hurricane Fay messing up my days, partly because I've had to take care of the rest of the clean up here at the beach house for the end of summer and take care of all of our packing, and partly due to not feeling like I've actively contributed to my challenge in a noticeable way.

Sure, I've done the usual things to help mom out around the house, I've finished all the yard projects we started, been a mo… Continue

Thank you Peter! I've had many requests for a duplicate of that piece. It went to a mother after the birth of her second child and is in fitting company.

I realized halfway through the day I hadn't given anything or even thought about it. I gave my Weight Watchers treat to a young woman in my office who told me her mom was on Weight Watchers. I thought she might not know about these terrific "1 point…

Well, it may be all due to global warming, which is a decidedly bad thing, but I've never gotten so much conversational mileage out of unseasonably cold weather. Everyone from the parking valet guy when I went to grab a quick lunch at Baja Fresh (he…
