Days 12 & 13

Day 12 was an opportunity to share something that I believe in strongly - veganism. A college student who works part time in my office starting asking me about being vegan. She is currently vegetarian and wants to move towards being vegan and had lots of questions. It was a gift for me to be able to share my beliefs. I usually don't "preach" unless asked so I love the opportunity to share why I believe what I believe and choose to live cruelty free lifestyle. I also brought her some vegan baked…See More

Days 10 & 11

Day 10: Last day of vacation before returning to work. To ease the transition, we had planned on going to brunch with my mother and grandmother. We awoke to a very snowy morning and the thought of traveling out did not seem appealing. Instead we invited everyone over to the house and created a feast - chocolate chip scones, bagels & hummus, tofu scramble, fruit salad. We just ate, sat, and talked. It was a warm wrap up to the week.Day 11: First day back to work with staff meeting scheduled…See More

Day 9

Today we hit the rink, skating that is. The girls' wishes for vacation activities were to go to the movies (we saw Avatar - highly recommended) and ice skating, so today was the day. Despite the one wipe out resulting in a bruised and scraped check (my oldest daughter), fun was had by all. For me, it brought back the gift of memories both of when they were little and we sloooowly scooted around the rink clinging onto the edge and when I was growing up and my mother took me and my sister…See More

Day 5

Today I knew that I wanted to give something to my grandmother, I just wasn't sure on the where, what and when. My mother called in the morning and asked if she could stop by to drop off some things. While she was getting ready to move on to her next errand, she mentioned that she needed to both food shop and take my grandmother to an appointment and wasn't sure how she was going to do both. The universe presented both an opportunity to give a gift to my mother and grandmother. I volunteered to…See More

Day 2

I spent a majority of the day in the car driving back from NJ to Rochester and wondered when the opportunity to give would arrive. We were just a mile from our home when my cell phone rang. My mother must of sensed our return. Usually I like to unwind when we return from a trip before visiting with friends and family but I also know how much my mother loves to see her granddaughters. So, I invited her over to visit. When we arrived home I found that her birthday present, which had been delayed,…See More

Day 1

First day of the 29 day giving challenge. It seems appropriate that it is Christmas Day. Although I don't celebrate Christmas myself as a religious holiday, it is a time of giving and receiving. My day started off with an opportunity to give of small gift. My mother-in-law needed to pick up rolls for Christmas dinner, a task she was not excited about as she was worried about traffic and long lines. I volunteered to pick them up and used the opportunity to also pick up breakfast for the family.…See More

Day 8

Woke up to a new year and started off my making homemade crumb cake for my family. It was a big hit as each one eventually made their way downstairs in the morning lured by the smell of cinnamon and sugar. This afternoon I had another opportunity to give at my yoga studio. Classes offered on holidays are "donation classes" and instead of the regular class fee, you are able to make a donation to a cause that the studio chooses at the start of the year. This year they are raising money for Off… Continue
