Profile Information

Why I'm choosing to give:
Although I'm not particularly wealthy, I feel like I have so much. I have more than my family did when I was growing up. I'd love to share my "fortune" with others and show my kids how important it is to engage with others.
What I'd most like to receive:
Anything that brightens my day....and I'm pretty easy to please.

About me:
I'm a mother of 2. Originally from Vermont, but now living in Georgia and working in television news. I've recently realized that my adult life has been held down by possessions. This is so NOT how I was raised. I grew up in a family that didn't have a lot of money, but was rich with experiences. Why have I spent the last 10 years worried about what others have and how I compare???? I want to raise my children to feel as rich as I did growing up.

I'm Back!!!!

I can't believe how long I've been gone. I was thinking that I'd been gone for a few months, but my last blog post was October! Wow.

I HAVE been doing gives periodically, but the focus hasn't really been there. I don't even have an explanation...things have just come up. But now I'm here and I'm going to make a concerted effort to get back into it. I'm going to officially start on July 1. That way I'll be able to celebrate complating my first cycle back on my birthday (July 30).

I can't wait t… Continue

Day 5- Helping a Friend in Need

The economy is a mess, that's no secret. So far, my family has been blessed to have weathered the storm. A close friend of ours, however, has not been so lucky. He's an environmental engineer who serves as a consultant to builders doing new construction. Unfortunately, with a bad economy things aren't built. And because building has slowed, his employer had no choice but to lay him off. There's never a good time to lose your job, but this is a particularly bad time for this man.

Jason's in the… Continue

Day 4- Putting Myself Out There

Sunday was a day of tests for me. I was tested in my patience, my courage and my grace. I passed them all, which turned out to be a gift to myself.

I have a friend who I've become distant with. I'm not sure if I can even consider her a friend at this point. I've learned that she's a bit toxic to me. I'm sure it's a result of her own insecurity. For years I allowed her to make me feel inadequate and that didn't do either of us any favors. Recently we had a turning point and I asserted my strengt… Continue

Day 2- Celebrating a Baby

No, not mine. :)

A friend of mine from a local mothering message board is expecting her 4th child. She's what you might call my 'Mom Idol'. She's everything that I secretly wish I was. She's got 3 extremely well-behaved, beautiful children. She's talented and crafty and makes a living by sewing things. She's just this creative, dynamic, hippy-mom who refuses to fit into just one group or category or cliche. She's just cool and I've wanted to be her friend since I met her.

For the last couple… Continue

Round 3, Day 1- The Beauty of Not Having a Story

I was watching The View yesterday and Robin Roberts was on talking about her book "8 Rules to Live By". During the interview, she talked about her battle with breast cancer and how it inspired her to write the book and reach out to others. She talked about her mother always telling her to "make your mess your message". That phrase hit me so hard and has now inspired me for the last 36 hours. It's one of those quotes that I hope to carry with me for the rest of my life and be able to pull it out… Continue

When I ran across this, I almost cried! My Granny sent this valentine to me-but back then it was a birthday card...when I was in Elementary school I still have it! Now I am sharing it with all my friends here!

Thanks for your comment...You're right--I was hoping others would see me picking up litter, but I was actually afraid someone might yell at me for watering the trees since they weren't in front of my house...so I guess I was hoping no one would see me. But when you put it the way you did, I hope people do see me now.

So today at lunch, I got a different cashier. Drats! But I looked in "her" general direction and smiled. Don't know if she saw me or not. But I'm up to 19 cents off each gallon of gas next time I fill up! I enjoy reading your blog posts. Enjoy a great weekend :-) Connie
