Profile Information

Why I'm choosing to give:
I want to be more selfless and less selfish. I want to have an attitude of giving freely to others and not hoarding for myself. I believe this will be a good learning experience for me and a very valuable life lesson. I am also looking to learn to give without expecting thanks for the gift. I want to give freely without expectations and I want some of my gifts to be anonymous.
What I'd most like to receive:
A more open, free spirit, less judgmental attitude. A more trusting attitude of people and the world.
How did you hear about the 29-Day Giving Challenge?
The Yoga Journal article
About me:
I live in Dallas and I am in the beginning stages of my yoga practice with a wonderful teacher. Yoga is helping me to understand more about my body as well as my spirit and I believe that by beginning this journey of giving it will enhance my spirit even more.

Day 8, so far the best give for me

On day 8 my boyfriend and I went to an area nursing home to visit a friend of his who is recovering from a fall. We took a game called Quiddler to play with her. It was wonderful, we played in their dining room and by the time we left we had added players, and spoken to many of the residents who wanted to know what we were playing. It was wonderful to spend time with people who may not have many visitors and to remind us how beautiful elderly people are. What a blessing that was for me and my bo… Continue

Day 7 and still giving

On day 7 I called my boyfriend and told him why I am so grateful he is in my life, this may not seem like much, however we have been struggling lately and have not told each other this in awhile so it meant a lot to him as well as myself. I also met a friend at the movies when she called up at the spur of the moment and we saw "Precious". Wow that movie really put gratitude in perspective. I am so thankful for what I have been blessed with...

Continuing to give

On day 5 I helped a co-worker with a project she was working on so that she did not have to do it alone. It feels great when you can give to others as a team it just makes the working environment (where I spend so much time) more enjoyable. On day 6 I met a friend for lunch, it was great to catch up with her and listen to what is going on in her life. Sometimes I believe I should be giving more tangible items then I remember how valuable time is for everyone and that a lot of people just want to… Continue

the journey continues

On day 2 of my journey I spent some time with my grandmother who is homebound and gave a big hug. Since she spent so much time with me when I was growing up I try and see her as much as I can and even though she can no longer communicate verbally she can understand and give hugs. I also gave a $10 tip to a airport bus driver who took me to the airport, I believe people are traveling less and they make fewer tips now so I thought that might be helpful as we get closer to the holidays. On day 3 I… Continue

Every new member has 100 credits to "spend" on virtual gifts. When you run out, you can buy more through PayPal. Each time you send a gift, a box will appear showing how many credits, if any, you have left. It also asks if you want to buy more and will walk you through the process. A portion of the money goes to 29Gifts and the rest to NING for site management.

Hope that 'splains it! Let me know if you have any q's!

Kimberly,
I read Julia Child's Life in France book for book club this year and really enjoyed the book. My mother in law has most of Julia's original edition books and we cooked several dishes from the books. Yummy introduction to potato leek soup.

Support our Cause of the Month
In November, we're sponsoring a cause that has been started by fellow giver, Lubabat. We are so deeply touched and impressed by Lubabat's strength of character & spirit. Lubabat was diagnosed with MS in the mid 90s and then in August of 09, she was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. Her reaction has been so inspirational - she is thriving through giving. She is hosting a Christmas Give and her theme is "going small to make a big impact" We have named her our November Cause of the Month and would be grateful for your support!

Happy giving!

Mary

Thank you, Deb. I hope to get my hip x-rayed tomorrow - it has been unbearably painful for about 2 1/2 months. Once I get the x-rays, the next step is probably PT.
