Profile Information

Why I'm choosing to give:
I've been trying to get rid of things that no longer serve a purpose in my life and that may benefit others by being made useful.
What I'd most like to receive:
I would like to feel an improved flow of energy in my life, which I currently feel is blocked and stagnant. This includes improved inter-personal relations and increased financial prosperity.
How did you hear about the 29-Day Giving Challenge?
Facebook
About me:
I have been in recovery for severe depression after car accident related injuries. While I've been unemployed, I've led yoga groups, sung in church choir, helped the local theater and worked for charities. Those activities have utilized skills and talents of mine that I've not been able to gain a living from doing, but that I enjoy sharing with others. I often feel that people are more interested in getting something than giving of themselves to others. That is why I love the principle of this experiment. I think it would be interesting to keep track of these gifts while making a solid pattern of giving for 29 consecutive days just to see what that's like.

What Comes Around Goes Around (Round #2 Day #2)

I gave scented soaps to a friend who let me borrow her dolls again this year for Leslie's window display. Another merchant (whose window I decorated last year) let me borrow the same hats for the dolls this year. Leslie was pleasantly surprised! She loved the old Flexible Flier sled I brought over to put the dolls on. I sold all my Christmas Fund Raiser tickets for German choir. Judy was so happy, she not only gave me more tickets, but she and some other German Choir club members bought quilt ra… Continue

Where did Day #29 go???

I sat down and did the math and couldn't believe that Day #29 has long past! So I think today is as good a day as any for new beginnings. After all I did buy a New Beginnings Karma symbol today of the holy scribe Ganesh "Remover of Obstacles" with my Karma points, so I feel it's an auspicious day. I'm giving myself the gift of health today by going for a cholesterol screening. I also look forward to giving a gift of friendship and being a noble citizen by voting today. Starting Sunday and all th… Continue

Oh Shame on Me!

Oh Shame on me for loosing track of whatever day of giving I'm on! Daily blogging definitely got harder for me the busier I got with all these great giving ideas! I had a great time yesterday shopping with my mom. I had to see what was wrong with my cell phone. Luckily, the battery wasn't making proper contact so it just needed to be reset and that was FREE! I was so relieved and happy to hear it that I asked my mom (who took me there) if she'd like to have a look round her favorite clothing sho… Continue

Mindful Giving

I've gone 10 days without blogging about my gives. I wondered if my shift in focus meant I was being less mindful? I thought real hard on it and I know from blogging and mindfulness of my daily actions that I'm very giving to those in my inner circle. However reaching beyond that comfort zone is a bit more difficult for me, but by making the effort I found that that sort of giving, expecting nothing in return is it's own reward. If one person considers a mere smile at a stranger giving as oppose… Continue

How Gifts can Change Relationships

Yesterday at my son's soccer match I was looking out for one mother who went out and bought pizza for all the boys at an away game this season since they wouldn't get home until after 8:30 pm. When my son told me of this I was really grateful to Sally for doing that kind deed. This daily giving notion really got me thinking about taking action. So I brought a jar of my homemade Strawberry Rhubarb Jam to the game. When I spotted Sally I went over and gave it to her and told her how grateful I was… Continue

Hello- Haven't heard from you for a while- I hope all is well with you. I thought this was nice for everyone regardless of religion or beliefs. Have a peaceful, beautiful day of the spirit.

A holiday affirmation:

I embrace the holiday season with joy and an open heart. I look at this time of year through the eyes of a child full of excitement. I gift others with kindness and a sincere smile. I feel at peace and view my life as the miracle that it is.

Hi Kirsten,
The yoga wshops I refer to are usually the ones that may be a plane ride away, with a few big names leading the courses.
