"Good question. I love everyone's responses. And I agree that you always get something from giving."

Profile Information

Why I'm choosing to give:
I've been feeling somewhat sorry for myself lately with a string of small life setbacks and conflicts. It seems I can't figure out God's plan because nothing seems to work, no matter how much I pray about it. I know God is faithful though, and I should be focusing on others and not myself.
What I'd most like to receive:
A sense of peace and the feeling of being appreciated.
How did you hear about the 29-Day Giving Challenge?
a writers newsletter (FFW)
About me:
I love my family, my kids, writing, the Browns, Neil Diamond, bargain-hunting, and God (not necessarily in that order.)

yes :)

Days 9 -18: I've forgotten to post but not to give!

Posted on October 28, 2008 at 1:36pm 0 Comments

Days 9 -18 have gone by with pretty simple gives. I've given money to church, more goodie bags to church kids, money to a new church that's starting up, my time to my kids with their homework and of course everything else that comes with being a mom of 3; I've given Halloween candy to the neighborhood kids for trick-or-treating (I hope that counts even if everyone does it) and encouragement to my hubby who has been running 6 miles two or three times a week. I've also given 2 hours of my time… Continue

Days 6, 7 and 8: a little harder, a little wierder

Days 6 and 7 pretty much went by with regular gives, meaning nothing out of the ordinary. I gave a hug to someone I don't know very well, but she's in a prayer group I've been in. She responded by saying that she's praying for my son, who started a new school. It was touching. Also I gave a card to my brother, who is turning 40 and we haven't spoken in 2 years. He won't acknowledge it of course, but I did give him the gift of trying.

But day 8, today, now that's where it's a little… Continue

Day 5: giving time and effort

Posted on October 15, 2008 at 1:30pm 1 Comment

Today I gave the gift of 2 hours of my time and effort. A friend of mine is successful in her cooking business, but decided she wanted to take it further and try out for a tv show. So, being a free-lance writer, and spending 10 years in media & pr professionally, but now "just a mom", I took 2 hours today when the kids were at school and wrote her a press release/bio that she could give to the producers at her try-out. I just wanted to do it as a gift since I'm happy for her. And I needed… Continue

Day 4: Is it a give if there's something in it for you?

Posted on October 14, 2008 at 4:30pm 2 Comments

Well, today I gave a bag of used books to the library. They took them and offered me a receipt for tax purposes. I said yes. Which begs the question, is it a true "give" if there's a little something in it for you? I wonder what everyone thinks about this? I posted it in the discussion section.

Day 3

Posted on October 13, 2008 at 6:20pm 2 Comments

Gave the earth a present today---drove to a large recycle bin at the local high school with a van full of newspapers and promptly dumped them in. For some reason, our trash people don't take recycle bins, so our newspapers pile up in the garage until I can load up my van and drop off the old papers....

Gave encouragement to 3 people today, in the form of cards. Gave my best wishes to a dear out-of-state friend who just finished radiation for breast cancer; gave support to our… Continue

You are too hard on yourself Kris. It is great to bless others with things we no longer use or need. If it blesses you in the process, so be it.
