Profile Information

Why I'm choosing to give:
I think it's important to share with others. It's what I learned in kindergarten, and it's what I practice now.
What I'd most like to receive:
Just knowing I've left the world a little better than I found it is good enough for me. But since you asked....I would LOVE to get a book deal for my essays.
How did you hear about the 29-Day Giving Challenge?
My friend Jessica
About me:
I am a lawyer by day, and a writer by night.
Do you agree to read and follow the 29Gifts Code of Conduct once you join our site?

Ms. Annie's roof

I received this email from a law school classmate and was moved to help. I have included the letter below, along with information about the fund for those who are interested in helping.

We are writing you this letter because we know you have a big heart. We want to tell you about a family that is in desperate need of help. The well has run dry for city and state services, and if this family does not receive help from people like you, their future hangs in the balance.

Day 15 - the gift of beauty products

I attended this event last night in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month and got a nice little gift bag filled with lots of beauty supplies and samples. I have really sensitive skin, so I have to stick with certain products. A woman I work with is a major fashionista, so I brought it to her today and she was thrilled.

Day 14 - signed a petition to help Iraqi war vet get her dog back

Last week, I signed an online petition to allow Army Spec. Gwen Beberg to get her puppy back from Iraq. The military has a policy against allowing members to bring animals back with them after their service is complete. I was getting ready for work this morning and heard the good news on TV - she is being reunited with her puppy, Rachet. You can read the story here: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27267422/

Day 13 - info to co-worker regarding health ins. for her brother

I have a co-worker whose brother is very ill with cancer and has moved in with her. He just moved from another state and has no health insurance. She was so overwhelmed she didn't know where to start. I was aware of several cancer programs and low-cost insurance plans for people without health insurance dealing with serious medical issues, so I printed out a bunch of literature for her.

Day 12 - donated to Equal Justice Works

I haven't been very good about keeping up with my blog...but I am thinking about the 29 day challenge and am seeking out new and different ways to give, above and beyond what I normally do. For example, a few weeks ago, I receieved a $25 choose-your-own-project-to-donate-to gift certificate from Crate & Barrel. It was a fantastic promotion, as it allowed me to choose projects that I am interested in. I chose to donate the money to a Chicago classroom to purchase a book-binding machine so the… Continue

Hi Lindsay! Welcome to the movement. That you had such a giving day before you "signed on" probably means it was just waiting to happen.
I was in Chicago earlier this month--I grew up there and my parents are still there--and it was lovely!
There's a Chicago 29Gifters Group, that you might want to join. Click on "Groups" above and find the Chicago one.
Good giving!
