Profile Information

Why I'm choosing to give:
I share Cami Walker's philosophy.
What I'd most like to receive:
The intangibles of giving: a balm to fight the depresion and dullness of life. Additionally, to increase my abundance, so I
have the ability to keep on giving.
How did you hear about the 29-Day Giving Challenge?

About me:
I live in Brooklyn, New York. In the shadows of the Empire State building, The Chrysler Bulding and down under the Brooklyn Bridge, exist multidudes of needy people. Needy for food, a job, a drink, a kind word, someone to love, someone to visit them, someone to just care.
Even though Murphy's law says differently. I hold to the supremcy of: No good deed goes un-rewarded.

Enjoying the end of round one

I have never seen monsoon rains; except for televison and my imagination. However, today I think I saw the closet thing to it. I became soaked despite my sturdy umbrella. I carry two passes for public transit. One is an unlimited ride card; the other one is in case I forget the expiration date on the unlimited card. It is my back up.
Today it came in handy for someone else. I paid her fare with my back up card. No one should be caught in a "moonsoon".

Forming a chain

A book is new to you, if you have not read it yet. I'm paraphrasing a sign that a used book dealer had in his store window. The best price for a "new" book, however, is free. People leave books on the street to be taken.
Recently, I read a supsensful paperback that I had picked from one of these free piles; spicing up a stressful working day. Yesterday, I donated this, and other free books to the library. I noticed that one or two fo them, had origninated from the library in the first place.

Two words for you.

Some time ago, a banker went beyond the call of duty, to acquire some basic information, for me. I have been wanting to thank her, but I have been procastinating. The other day, I found some thank you cards. I sent one to her. I almost chnaged my mind, thinking it would be silly. I mean, no one sends thank you notes through snail mail anymore, right?
Her celebratory voice, reminded me, of the USA sotball captian, after their victory. I wonder if I would get the same reuslt from my Dentist?

Major league giving.

Some people are extraordinary givers. A woman in Africa, offering a portion of her only meal, to a news reporter would certainly be an example. Some time ago, I could not find work. I decided I would paint, paperhang, place bathroom tiles, and cabinets. In short, I would do odd jobs.
When I needed a hand, I hired some guys who were homeless. Some of them were clean, and did not drink. Two of these guys would offer to loan me money. Incredible. These guys on the second tier of Maslow's hierachy o… Continue

A once in a lifetime race.

Yesterday, was marathon Sunday, which made for the highlight give of the day. Back in 1986, when I ran the race, there were approximately 20,000 people. Today, thre are over 30,000. Only the world class runners receive widespread recognition. The overwhelming majority are unknown greats, each with a story, of why they run.
I stood along fourth avenue in Brooklyn, and cheered for those in the back of the pack. Some were walking; some were joggly slowly. I became hoarse, while those I cheered on,… Continue

Here's one of my favorites: "A sad, but true, statement about my life: Even my two cats have more sex than I do -- and they're neutered!." Another favorite that I can't take credit for but love: "I'm not just an alcoholic, I'm tri-addicted - I get addicted to everything I try." Gee, they're much funnier when told in person!!

The Steelers do hold a special place in my heart if nothing else but because I'm a Pittsburgh girl through and through. The Pens are more my sport of choice though.

Thanks for checking in. Saw my friend last week, and you'd never know he has one less kidney. He's doing really well, and his aunt is recovering and getting stronger. Really amazing.

I will comment on your comment to my blog about my 92 year old mom. I was not being noble going to see her when I did not want to. i was doing what is expected for a child for her parent. I have discussed all this with my daughter about me as I have discussed with my own mom about her mother. It is a family thing all done with love with a few complaints along the way. Naturally my mom had the same feelings when she was caring for her mom and I am sure as my daughter will, when I fall in the catagory of having to be cared for.

Gabrielle, I am a high school teacher and my experience is that there are very few 17 year old girls out there that are as wise and mature as you. I wish I had the insight you have when I was your age --shoot, when I was 27! It takes most women so l…

Well, I lost track of where I was in round two, which is to say, I wasn't doing a very good job of self-care! I recently had a reading with Mbali. I was very frazzled going into it. Had a lot going on in several directions. Then the house phone sta…
