Why I'm choosing to give:
To do my part to make this world a little nicer for all of us. To keep growing spiritually...
What I'd most like to receive:
Blessings. The blessing I would most like to receive now is to be able to go for the lesser pilgrimage (Umra) to Mecca.

I also would like to develop the courage to begin a career in writing, which I have wanted since childhood.
How did you hear about the 29-Day Giving Challenge?

A few of my favorite gives

While I was away from blogging and the community, I wasn't away from daily giving. My favorite give was to the students in my homeroom class. The girls have a lot of self-esteem problems. I wrote the poem "Your Specialness" with them in mind. Something told me to wait till the end of classes to give it to them. On the last day of classes before exams, I gave each one a copy and a couple pieces of candy. I gave it to each individually when they showed me their work for the day. No easy task since… Continue

Have you had fun today? You should have fun!

Lately I have been feeling down. I have forced myself to avoid negative people and have been setting off on my own for a few days. I thought of it as necessary- I have to learn to get around town; I need to go buy a ____... Even though I began to feel better about myself and my life situation, I knew something was missing.

Last night I went to sleep earlier than usual but didn't sleep all that well. I still felt something was missing (I have been working on getting rid of negatives so I guess i… Continue

The Super Simple Life- Reflections

Yesterday I went to an Islamic study circle and talk (taleem and bayaan) at a neighbor's house. There was a group of Ladies from India who came here for learning and missionary work (many of us figure it is our fellow Muslims who need this work the most). One of the ladies told me that a lady I had met years ago in Bangledesh had died recently. Before she died she decided that what she really wanted to do was to live like the companions of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) did. So she put… Continue

My little bit to help grow peace - protesting graphic war photos

Since the cease fire there has been a campaign to raise money for Gaza at the school where I work. I knew that many people were very upset about what had happened and many had families back there or roots there. Emotions have been very high especially since the local news channels had been running Gaza 24/7. Sometimes I wondered if I was the only objective, peace-seeking person left. Good news: At last count the school raised over 9000 dirhams for the Red Crescent (like the Red Cross).

When the… Continue

Making Peace between my Students

Today I had to make peace between two of my 5th grade girls. One is Russian and one is a local Emirati. They have a history of conflicts and insults between them. Both are very stubborn and somewhat pugnacious. This time one insulted the other, they pushed each other, and one of them got pushed to the floor. This happened at the end of class transition (from one classroom to the next) so I didn't see exactly what happened.

I told them they could resolve this with me or with the supervisor. They… Continue

Seems 29 gifts has made a new life for me FULL of things I always wanted to do!
I have been extremely busy, but still taking care of self, like not staying up till 2am on the site, like I used to!
I love my life now, and was depressed when I started.
So much has changed.
I will highly recommend Cami's book, if you did not order it, I am reading my copy now, it's great, my story did not make it in, and I am OK with that.
It's not the story I wanted to write, but the one Cami wanted me to write, so my best work did not go into it.
I am so Full of gratitude for 29 gifts.
Stay in touch!
