Grace

Today at Stew Leonard's (grocery store) I ran into my first "rejection." My little family had a receipt for over $100 from the store, and you can use it to get a free ice cream out front. I tried to give it to another woman who was standing in line for ice cream. She was holding a toddler on her hip. She was so uncomfortable and resistant to my offer. It just made me reflect on giving and getting and how suspicious we are of other people trying to do nice things.

Too many charities sending "fre… Continue

Post-feminist transformation?

I've been trying to be mindful in my giving. To Cami's newsletter, trying not to focus on what "counts" but just being mindful of all the things I give. So there have been some material gifts (my neighbor mentioned that her husband loves cookie dough so I made some and saved some for him) and some gifts of time and listening (a woman I work with is a week past her due date and people keep telling her horror stories about labor so I spent half an hour on the phone giving her a pep talk about what… Continue

Ellen

I want to be just like my neighbor, Ellen. She's been so good to my kids. Today she sent Audrey home with a baggie of the cookies she had just baked. She's not in any challenge. She's just a good human being who does nice things for other people.

Airline blanket

Day three I went on a trip to Salt Lake and took a little bag of chocolates as a gift to a friend. But day four was the first time I felt like I had done something worthwhile. Maybe you'll think it's silly...

I was on the plane home last night, a 4.5 hour trip. Uncomfortable, as always. A little chill. I grabbed a blanket on my way to sit down, as I always do, because there are never enough. No pillows available these days, of course. I sat on the aisle and a very tall young man sat at the wind… Continue

Days 1 and 2

On Day 1 I bought coffee for a friend. On Day 2 (today) I pledged to the public radio station. So far, seems too easy, too monetary. I'd like to find more meaningful gifts that don't involve giving money. I have a book in mind for a friend. Maybe I'll bring that Friday.

I didn't watch the lastest video. I would also imagine that they would want the avalanche of mail to stop. Isn't it amazing what a group of kind caring people can do to boost a kid when he is so sick.

Great gift! I'm sure your son really appreciates the time you spent with him, even more than the food.

This is an amazing way to start your challenge! I'm sure it made her day. Many hostess' and greeters don't get the credit they deserve. My 9-yr old daughter pointed this out to me just last week. She made a point to approach the greeter at our loc...

I love this idea! What a wonderful give. I am going to use this for christmas presents this year. I wanted to be able to give gifts with meaning instead of something that will sit on a shelf or get lost in a drawer. Thank you so much. Bless you, Patt
