Round 4: Day 20: Alphabetizing

My gift today was quite simple.  At work, we have a deal where we prepare the registration cards for the guest the next day.  I now do both tasks of delivering the bills AND setting up breakfast since my colleague is suffering from health issues at this time.  He told me that he would take care of said registration cards later on.  However, as he stepped away, I took the liberty of alphabetizing them for him.  One less thing that he had to do.  :)Make it a great day, everyone!See More

Round 4: Day 17: Birthday Gift Bag

Heh - funny how this challenge can find us giving literal gifts, no?  Ok.  Maybe not.  :/  (Shouldn't quit my day job, huh?  Or night job... I'm on a roll.  I'll be here all week, folks.)  ;)So, a co-worker had her birthday today.  Knowing that the job was on the way to my gig earlier this evening, I decided to drop it off while she was at work.  I got her a bag of puppies (stuffed...for the record,) a punching balloon and a card.  Got a couple of hugs from her. Can't complain about that. :)The…See More

Round 4: Days 15 & 16: Yogurt and Phone Message

The first day sounds funny - I'm sure.  But, my buddy at work mentioned that he's on a strict diet due to his abdominal hernia.  He is currently wearing a band/belt to keep his insides in place.  Still quite a bit to do on his end and he's got a constant ache.  The evening prior, he was going to try mixing cereal and yogurt.  However, I warned him that the yogurt that he was about to consume had aspartame in it (which I am vehemently against for a slew of reasons.)  So, I took it upon myself to…See More

Round 5: Day 14: Another gift to Shannon

I write this during "my evening" where people are just starting their day.  I feel at a loss for what my gift should be today.  I thought of saying "no seat" on the crowded train ride home.  In other words, I didn't sit down when a seat was available.  However, a LOT of people did that.  Therefore, I think that would be cheating. I do, however, get updates from Shannon (my friend that needs $11K for her teeth to be fixed.)  She states that she is 40% towards her goal.  She also stated in an…See More

Round 5: Day 13: Bill Cosby, Himself

At work while I type this.  I was working with a colleague who normally doesn't do the Overnight Shift.  In passing, I mentioned "Bill Cosby, Himself."  (A classic if there ever was one.)  She mentioned that she hadn't seen it. Therefore, I brought in my laptop and my DVD copy of said film.  We were able to watch it throughout the evening.  I think she may have been tired since the belly laughs that I usually get from the film didn't happen from her.  However, she told me that she quite enjoyed…See More

Round 5: Day 12: American Red Cross Local Chapter

As I write this, I just woke up and am bracing myself to go to work.  I write "bracing myself" since the low tonight temperature-wise is 0 degrees.  The bright side is that these low temps are only here for a couple of days.  Therefore, I can and will manage. However, in thinking of my gift today, I was thinking about those less fortunate than myself.  I can not begin to fathom as to those without homes that are out in the cold.  Therefore, the most logical thing with my schedule was to donate…See More

Round 5: Day 11: Prayer/thoughts request

Hi, 29-Day Giving Challenge Family! So, in opening up my page to log in at this site, I had a fellow member asking me about the gig last night.  I was going to directly message her because I thought it might be inappropriate to "air out" bad news, per se.  Then, in an instant, I thought,"Wait a minute.  It might be more appropriate to let everyone know about.  THIS is the gift."  So, here's the message that I was going to send to her personally."Hello!  (Thought it better to send a message as…See More

Round 5: Days 9 & 10: Opening the door and 2nd cousin phone call

I HAVE to make this blog really short since I am about to be picked up by my manager for a private party gig this evening.  However, I didn't want too much time to be lost (yet again) between my entries.Day 9: Before being picked up for the gig at Ballydoyle in Aurora (one of the Irish pubs that Classical Blast is on regular rotation for - thank the Universe,) I was waiting downstairs for my ride.  I saw one of my neighbors approaching the front gate.  I fished out my keys and opened it up for…See More

Round 5: Days 6, 7, 8: Song choice, phone call and Chicago Children's Charities

A LOT of catching up to do here.  So, I'll try to make this as concise as I can:Day 6: I was asked to be a guest on a Songwriting Podcast from a singer/songwriter friend of mine.  The layout:  The guest chooses two songs to play and talk about the songwriting process behind each one.  I already knew that "Muse" made the cut (off of my last album "Better You Here Than Alone.")  However, I had a hard time choosing the second song.  I have a good friend of mine that really knows and likes my…See More

Profile Information

Why I'm choosing to give:
I have been very discontent with everything for the past month or two. After talks with my g/f and my mentor, I realized (from past experience AND from advice as of late) that if I wanted change to occur, I'd have to change my actions. Along with Morning Pages (a la Julia Cameron,) I've taken up meditation and reading. One book that my g/f had on her bookshelf, "29 Gifts" spoke to me. I had to read it. Upon finishing the book (before then even,) I KNEW I had to start giving
What I'd most like to receive:
Joy, peace, serenity and a life beyond my wildest dreams.
How did you hear about the 29-Day Giving Challenge?
Through Cami's book "29 Gifts" :)
About me:
BIO UPDATED on December 21, 2011:
David Kav is no stranger to the world of music (and/or performing for that matter.) David has been playing the acoustic guitar since the age of 14. He has been singing for MUCH longer. We can blame the genes (since Mom was a piano player and a cellist in her early life and Dad was a guitarist/vocalist and musician as well.) We can blame the classic rock that David was inundated with (growing up on Journey's album "Infinity," Boston's Debut Album, Electric Light Orchestra's "Out Of The Blue" and the like.) However, more appropriately, it wasn't until he heard U2's Debut Album "Boy" at the age of 6 that music got him in a stranglehold:

"My aunt gave me a cassette tape of U2's album 'Boy.' She said, 'this is for you, David. I think you'll really like it.' I was just excited at the time to get something from my cool, rock 'n roll/punk aunt and thought, 'ok. New toy to play with. I'll play this on my tape recorder when I get home.' So, I did. Numerous times.

"It didn't hit me until one day, I was playing the tape while in my HUGE bedroom (which was more like a giant playground. Really cool.) I was playing some sort of game with my sister and the song "A Day Without Me" was playing through the tape player. All of a sudden, Bono goes into the a cappella portion of the song where he sings...

'Wipe that tear...from the get-go-a-ooooooooo-MNAH'

"It was that last part and the influctuation therein in that line that struck me. I looked at the recorder and heard the transposition of the song. I thought, deep down, 'wow....I wanna do THAT. I wanna be just like him.' Guilty (laughs.)"

Since that moment, David would ham it up and sing when he could. Fast forward to 2011: David has released two self-produced albums: "Look Into My Eyes" (about to be out-of-print. Limited copies still available,) and "Better You Here Than Alone." David has, since then, produced a Debut Album with his two-man band, KAVUS called "Nice To Meet You Again" courtesy of CAUDog Records (www.caudogrecords.com) and is set to release an EP containing recordings from the Legendary Sun Studios in Memphis in 2012.

David's latest project is with the eclectic classic/contemporary band, Classical Blast: "Classic rock with a classical twist." David was discovered by cellist Petar Kecenovici from a video on YouTube. After reading his extensive resume (Petar has played with Dennis DeYoung, Randy Jackson, George Benson, Jordin Sparks and Clay Aiken, as well as with groups Cheap Trick, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Mannheim Steamroller, il Divo and others,) David said, "I HAVE to do this!!!" David is ecstatic that he actually listened to his instincts to jump aboard the Classical Blast train.

All in all, 2012 is proving (already) to be an epic year with works in store from KAVUS, Classical Blast, and, of course, David Kav.

Round 4: Day 19: Support for neighbors and sister?

Posted on January 29, 2013 at 2:08am 2 Comments

I put the subject line above in a question mark since the latter turned out to be more supportive for me than otherwise.  Not to mention that the phone call was cut short since her kids were being...well...kids.  ;)

The former, however, found me calming them down since they had a bad altercation at our corner convenience store.  Turns out that their new employee was being immature and rude.  I understand that my neighbors (especially the female counterpart) can be...outspoken?…

When I was at the show at Heartland Cafe this past Saturday, I ran into the record producer of KAVUS' old record (KAVUS is the two-man band that I had.  We released a CD in 2011.  The band, however, is defunct.)  We exchanged words and talked about his record release (he is a well-known and talented Chicago musician as well.)  He mentioned that he is doing a campaign/fundraiser on IndieGoGo.com.  He asked if I could contribute and spread the word.

Therefore, I bought a…
