Profile Information

Why I'm choosing to give:
Cause I have gotten to the point where I sit and look through magazines and stuff and then get onto the pc and order them, for me, I have lost loads of weight recently and have found that I am always wanting, dresses, coats, etc, and I have never felt this greedy before in my life, and Its making me feel really uncomfortable, and I need to rethink the way I am
What I'd most like to receive:
Acceptance of myself. This probably sounds a bit nuts. I have for years wanted to be thinner thinking that then everything would be ok. Its not as easy as that. I stil need to deal with accepting the essential me, the real me, not just the person who looks back at me in the mirror.
How did you hear about the 29-Day Giving Challenge?

About me:

Do you agree to read and follow the 29Gifts Code of Conduct once you join our site?
yes -

Ok, a new place for me to be.
A bit about myself. I live in the Uk .

I work in a boys secondary school, and love working with the students. I also have a small counselling practice where I work with lots of different people with different issues.

I am 43, I love walking, reading (far too much for my own good), all different types of music, being silly, including rolling down hills and food fights.

I am a bit of a dreamer - I love to sit and think of where I want to be in the future and am not too good at making things happen, as other things often get in the way.

I am into crystals, healing and love the idea of the site. I do try and give, my partner would say I give too much - so I am going to be mindfull in my giving in future and try to give not for thanks but just for the joy of giving.

I think society has become quite selfish recently - its all mine mine, and want want want, and I have fallen for the must have now ideals in magazines. I am going to really try and think before I purchase, before I say I want, to think about where my needs really are.

A poem that helped me learn lots about giving and receiving, hope you like it.

After some time you learn the difference,
The subtle difference between holding a hand and chaining a soul.
And you learn that love doesn't mean leaning,
And company doesn't always mean security.
And you begin to learn that kisses aren't contracts,
And presents aren't promises.
And you begin to accept your defeats,
With your head up and your eyes ahead,
With the grace of a woman, not the grief of a child.
And you learn to build all your roads on today,
Because tomorrow's ground is too uncertain… Continue

Hi Deborah
I work with youth especially those that are disengaged and disaffected especially in the educational context. Joined the site recently and I am enjoying the challenge. I work as a training consultant and it means that I get to go into many schools, PRUs and Youth offending Teams meeting loads of young people, professionals and practitioners alike. I mainly focus on behaviour skills, personal development with an ethos of improving social and emotional skills. For the professionals the workshops are based on raising their awareness of their own practices and how to improve their engagement with young people.
I reside the borough of Croydon and work mainly across London but I do want to spread out across the Home Counties and further afield. Where is your school located?
