I'm sponsoring a family of five for Christmas!

Profile Information

Why I'm choosing to give:
Giving is a part of my personal philosophy - giving has been the support structure that has helped me through the toughest times in my life. It has given me reason to "feel good" at those times when I'd forgotten what 'good' felt like.
What I'd most like to receive:
inner peace, a greater sense of self worth, the knowledge that I've been a positive influence on my children and others around me!

In a more materialistic sense, I want my own home. My dream house even, with an ocean view, and no landlord. That's the "thing" I want most in this world.

About me:
Erin Monahan - 29 Gifts Community Manager
I'm mother to five amazing little people, wife to an incredible man, and a techy-nerd. I have spent 10 yrs teaching myself how to build websites and computer graphics; the Universe has spent a lifetime on teaching me how to use my talents in ways that benefit others. Through life's tragic events, I've learned enough to know that living a life of conscientious service is the only way to survive, and the most fulfilling way to thrive. That's why I feel so blessed to have discovered 29 Gifts, and to have been asked to take an active part in helping it grow!

Contact me for questions about how to use our website, if your company would like to sponsor a giveaway on our site or if you have a cause you'd like to nominate as one of our featured causes. I handle all of the day-to-day operations at 29Gifts, so I'm a good first stop for questions of almost any kind.

On a more personal note, I am a Traveler on a winding path, content in my journey, unconcerned with the destination. Spiritual, not religious. Quirky, but not quite odd. Named for the place I come from, and which I'll likely never see. Trying to change the world one little bit at a time...
I reside in Indian Trail NC, with lots of great kids, an amazing husband, a home based website development/implementation business, and visions of sugarplums dancing in my head.

So excited I can't WAIT till tomorrow!

OK, so I have this give planned for tomorrow and I wasn't going to post about it until tomorrow but I'm so excited I can't wait!!!

Tonight we went to a candle light memorial service for the homeless who have died in our county in the last 2 years. It was also a blanket drive, so we went to the store and bought 3 blankets (one to be donated by myself, one by Scott, and one by my 6 yr old daughter Terra) and went to historic downtown Monroe to the court yard at the old court house.

I'm going to… Continue

Today: Giving to my relationship

Scott and I don't get a lot of "quality time" together since I started working nights and my son & his fiance moved back in... so today I had a day off and I took Scott and I out to eat at a (very cool) little cafe we'd never been to for lunch, then across the street we went for dessert and cappuccinos (at another place we'd never been) then we walked around downtown and did some window shopping to get ideas for Christmas (and found a new place to go for awesome stuff!).

It's funny, we've l… Continue

I'm exhausted!

Today my gift was to work day shift instead of night shift. Another of the waitresses has a young daughter who fell in speed skating class and broke her arm. She needed to take her daughter to the orthopedist today, so I traded shifts with her.

I also donated to another girl's birthday gift. Her birthday is tomorrow but she only works Fridays so we'll give her the card and gift on Friday.

Then I came home from work, made a big yummy dinner, and enjoyed some down time on the couch with my gorge… Continue

giving by not giving

tonight was a horrendous nght at work, and when the boss man catches wind of what happened, heads will roll. Unfortunately, he's not always a fair boss, and despite the fact that I wasn't the one who got everything all screwed up, it will come down on me because I -the experienced waitress- was in the station next to an extremely inexperienced waitress when she did something that literally had half the restaurant in a tizzy and at least 5 tables unhappy. I had been (as I we are expected to do) k… Continue

Giving at work

One of the girls I work with has recently (within the last year) lost 2 family members to cancer, so cancer patients and those affected by cancer have become the cause that holds her heart. Last night was an incredibly slow night and we girls spent a lot of time chit chatting, particularly about how much money we weren't making as we sat around without customers. One thing this one girl told us about was that a child in her son's school was diagnosed with cancer, and the school was selling tshir… Continue

Hi Erin, thank you very much for your kind welcome. I'm already enrolled in the Meditation for the Entrepreneurial Spirit sessions and I loved the first one. I'm looking forward to today's session.

I have to tell you that meeting this amazing community has been inspiring and already a gift to myself.

I've been reading your posts and really enjoyed them. All of you at 29 gifts are really inspiring to me.

I hope you have a great weekend, a big hug from Mexico,

Paty
