Starting over - Day 1

Today I gave my friend's neighbor's soon-to-be 10 year old daughter a baseball glove and baseball. I had walked next door to invite her mom to go shopping at Goodwill with me. She was busy but her daughter wanted to get out of the house, so I loaded up Forest my 6 month old, Gwyneth my 4 year old daughter and Savannah (the almost-10 yr old neighbor) and we wandered around Goodwill in the toy section. I also bought her a Subway sandwich, soda and cookie. While at Subway we talked about…See More

Day 3

I gave several bags to Goodwill of favorite shoes, clothes from the whole family that the kids had outgrown/didn't wear, toys, books. I cleaned the kitchen and folded my parents clothes (they often fold mine, so this feels more of an even exchange). The big gift was my arm warmers from Australia - the last souvenir from that trip with close friends. They're cotton and bright rainbow striped; I gave them to my daughter. She used to wear them as leg warmers as an infant:) I gave myself the gift…See More

Day 2

Posted on January 10, 2011 at 10:05pm 4 Comments

Today I gave $0.20 to the counter at Chipotle Grill, and honey and lemon tea to my parents (one of whom is sick, the other had a colonoscopy today). I gave the gift of going to Goodwill to look at toys to my three year old, and a jump rope to her. I also gave her and I two puzzles to work on together (the gift = time together plus the puzzles themselves). I'm slightly alarmed at how little I'm giving. I gave vegetable juices to my daughter and myself.

Day 1

Today I gave the gift of time to my three year old daughter - we did a puzzle 3 or 4 times. I also gave 2 or 3 cups of hot honey and lemon tea to my parents. I also gave my daughter a "spa day": I painted her fingernails, washed and blow-dried her hair, lit a candlelight bath for her, put a ribbon barrette in her hair.
