the non-material gives, like saying hello to strangers or making the effort not to flip off a jerky driver, are usually the ones that i learn the most from. hope your cold gets better soon. Hugs, Dawn

i grew up in Chicago and i know how impersonal life can seem in a big city sometimes. that makes a give like "a kind glance" all that more special. don't forget to be kind and give to yourself - you are important, too. Hugs, Dawn

Profile Information

Why I'm choosing to give:
At the beginning of 2009 I found myself jobless, without health insurance and relying on the generosity of others to diagnose a severe case of double vision. In March I was positively diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis which shattered my world and forced me to change my life. Because of the many people who were so giving of their time and resources this year, I choose to give back. It is my gift to them for being so wonderful!
What I'd most like to receive:
Love.

New homes and roommates

Just a quick update...I am moved and settled in my new, beautiful home and very happy to be (mostly) unpacked. Gifts have still been given out, even with all the chaos and have included: getting medicine and frozen yogurt for a sick roommate, lighting a candle and saying a prayer for a friend of a friend going through cancer surgery and meeting a friend for a pre-lunch walk and lending an open ear.

Moving Day

It is officially moving day and I am already exhausted but very excited to be settled tonight in my new home. Even through all the chaos of packing up and cleaning, I have been able to both give and receive this past weekend.

On Saturday, I helped my roommate unpack all her stuff and set up our new kitchen. In return - a jamba juice treat on a hot day from a good friend checking out our new place.

Sunday, I went to dinner with a neighbor and my gift to him was good conversation. He paid. This… Continue

Back on track

I have been a little absent the past few days...but I am back! This past weekend I was slammed with a head cold that forced me into bed for a couple days, but am feeling much better now. It did put a bit of a hamper on my giving - although I did get to spend some quality time on the phone with two of my best friends, was a recipient of a Feldenkrais lesson for a practitioner in training, and sent a friend off to LA in style last night. PHEW! Did I mention, it's been a little hectic, too?

Althou… Continue

Days 5 & 6

I'm not sure if the act of conscious giving has made me more aware of the little gifts I receive everyday, or if I am just seeing the good karma circle back, but my life does seem to be a little more kind these days.

On day 5 of the give, I had a friend email me for some nutrition advice, as I am the expert of the group and am currently in school for Nutrition Education. I decided my gift would be to sit down and thoughtfully compose an email full of great tips and advice on the what to and wha… Continue

Across the miles

Today was inspired by the post Erin left regarding Lubabat Scotland. Send a card to brighten her day and let her know we are thinking of her as she deals with a serious medical condition. I happily filled out a card and sent it on its way. Of all my gives so far, this one felt the best and inspired me to send a few more cards filled with good thoughts and love.

After really thinking about this give all day, I received an unexpected call from my friend, Heidi. She's the high school friend I reco… Continue

Hi Lisa! thanks for asking me to be your friend. i visited San Francisco right after i graduated from high school (probably before you were born LOL). Chinatown is HUGE! and i loved the Golden Gate Park. sure were a lot of hills, though - i really noticed that since i was on foot most of the time. welcome to the 29 Gifts family - have fun with it. there's no rule that says we gotta be serious :-) Hugs, Dawn
