Profile Information

Why I'm choosing to give:
I love to give, and would like to see what that actually looks like when I put some awareness on it. Currently, I give things in a small way; and I want to give in a bigger way with my time and skills in a life's work context. I think that I actually need to give MYSELF some more, so this is a way to reflect on abundance and how that does and doesn't show up in my life.
What I'd most like to receive:
Confidence in myself and courage.

About me:
I'm looking for work that allows me to help people help themselves. I'm a procrastinator big time. I love making things out of fabric with my hands, learning about people, helping companies improve their products and services so people can benefit from them--and ideally do it in a way that it's good for the planet, too.
I love teaching people acupressure and natural wellness techniques to feel better and healthier, as part of my holistic wellness practice.

I now live in Palo Alto (moved recently from San Francisco) and despite being in the suburbs, live in a super walkable downtown area. Hooray! (The photo at the top of my page is in Taos, New Mexico, a place I'm lucky enough to call a second home.)

gave myself some quiet

I've felt very disconnected from myself for a long time. This morning I gave myself some quiet. Some yoga, and then a 10 minute sit. My mind went into planning and worry and other beatings, but I was able to let go and come back to clear a few times when I noticed...

I think that quiet is necessary on the inside, to be able to see and give on the outside. We shall see how the day goes.

Moving toward a strategy for giving.

I just debuted my creativity on Etsy: wakowa.etsy.com.
Giving is an important component of this endeavor, and I've been thinking about how to weave it in. I've noticed that my deep need to figure all things out before I act got me in a non-movement bind, so I decided to just declare that I'll give, without having to state how much and to whom.

However, the intention is still there, and I thought it was important to state that. That is, to declare the philoso… Continue

AIDS/Lifecycle ride: the privilege of giving

In 1997, I raised over $2000 $3500 (! I looked through my scrapbook; I raised more than I remembered!) and rode my bike 580 miles from San Francisco to Los Angeles, to support AIDS services in those cities. It was one of those amazingly memorable experiences. I never knew I could ride that much, nor could I have guessed the goodwill and good vibes of that rolling community of cyclists and volunteers and cheerleaders along the roads as we rode past.

Today, I got an email from an acquainta… Continue

gratitude for the places that keep stuff useful (and out of landfill)

I've been giving a lot of stuff away, as I move house. So it's a lot of giving, but really, I am so grateful for the tools/organizations that make this possible. That make the circulation of things in the world possible and relatively smooth.

So I want to thank:
- The second-hand bookstores and the library, for taking my books that I no longer need.
- The second-hand/resale store, for taking the shoes and household goods that I don't use anymore, but that are usable. (Out of the Closet, which b… Continue

WOW! I chose you as the one from the group to query 'cause i like your name...and then I see so much congruity between us (other than the numbers).

I need to ask about the book -- I bought a copy for myself and voraciously plowed through it in one day. It's extraordinary. I want to buy at 12-18 (or even 24) more if I can get a SERIOUSLY reduced rate. Do you get this gist that there are a few friends I wan to share it with? Anyway, I'm 67 and my only source of income is social security.

Also, I volunteer at a women's maximum security prison with three friends and we were thinking of having a study group making use of 29 Gifts, again if a reduced rate would be possible. Not sure how many books we'd need. The other book we studied together was Life Lessons by Elisabeth Kübler-Ross and David Kessler.

BTW, some of the inmates have signed up (through us) to do 29 days of giving. We'll be posting their progress. (I haven't even *formally* started the process yet!!!)

Thanks for checking this out and getting back to me.

Blessed be!

Hi Wako!! Good to see you again :) Yes, my trip is rather like a pilgrimage and we have more Abbeys and some absolutely breathtaking country ahead of us! We're moving along at a nice pace, slow and steady. It's very healing actually!

Thank you Wako for your welcome comments, I appreciate that. I have been doing my own thing, keeping a daily journal of what I am giving and it has been amazing the simple act of being conscious of giving has assisted me in lifiting my spirits. I do give, but not always consciously and then can get angry with myself for giving too much. To be more conscious has been superb for me! I have surprised myself at how much I am enjoying giving and how spontaneous and creative it has become. Such joy! I am enjoying the process very much.

Today I decided I would surprise my son when he got home from school with a fresh tray of rice krispie treats instead of the store bought ones. He told me that I was the best mom, and he is 17 so that is a treat for me.
