Love vs Lust

I was asked to be on telly today to talk about the difference between Love and Lust. And it got me thinking...when do you move from lust to love? How do you even know when it's love?

I realized the progression from lust to love is in the degree to which you commit your heart. With lust, there's some investment of…

Day 9

Today I sent out a little care pakage for a 11 year old girl fighting cancer. She is a very special girl and has been batteling cancer now for 2 years, and wise beyond her years. I sent her warm socks made of her favorite soft material and puffy heart stickers, I also included a happy note to let her know we miss her and think about her often. I know she will love the package and I enjoyed being able to send out a suprise for her.

A Great Day

I finished my first round of the 29 - day giving challenge a couple of days ago and decided to just think and journal about the experience before starting my second round.  I will begin it tomorrow, but today was such a wonderful day I just wanted to share a little joy with all of you.

Yesterday afternoon a lady that I have known for quite a while and have always wanted to get closer to, called and invited me to join her and a few other ladies at the…

Soles for Souls

Another early-in-the-day give! Donated two pairs of shoes to Soles4Souls. My son's school has been collecting them all month and I've been meaning to contribute. So today (on the last day!), I grabbed a couple pairs that I haven't worn in forever and sent them to school with my son. I wonder where they will end up? On the feet of someone who needs them more than me, that is for certain. Yippee! It feels so good to know that something so small can make… Continue

Past Few Days: A Tap and Blood

The other day I gave a tap. You see, our local mall has a place with drop-boxes for dropping off payments for different utility companies. Well, the other day when I went to drop off a payment (save a stamp; right?) another box had the end of an envelope sticking out of it. Someone hadn't pushed the envelope quite all the way in, and someone else could have come along and pulled it out. I gave it a little tap so the person's payment was safely in the box and sure to be received.

I… Continue

R2D23: The Hello

I went to an endurance class today.

This is supposed to strengthen our core muscles.

As we waited for the class to start, I turned to the gentleman next to me and introduced myself.

I normally do not do this to strangers.

I know that I talk to people all day long, sometimes to complete strangers, but that's part of my job.

After work, I usually stay quiet.

It was fun to get out of my comfort zone and said "Hi" to him.

It was also fun to get a…

Day 14

Today my gitt was to spend quality time with my daughter. We sat on the floor and played Polly Pocket for over an hour (normally I am too busy working on the computer or doing household chores,e tc.).. It was a gift for both of us! She is only 8 one time.

Days 25 & 26

Day 25:  Unpacked and settled into my office, and my friend Kristin stopped by to see the new space.  I knew she was coming so I made her a small wallet-size card with the following quote:  "The snow goose need not bathe to make itself white. Neither need you do anything but be yourself.  Lao Tzu, 4th century B.C."

Day 26:  Went to the children's hospital to treat my guy S.  Stopped at Whole Foods on the way and brought S. and mom a bouquet of white tulips, kiwi and strawberry fruit salad,… Continue

Gaining momentum to begin again...

I thoroughly enjoyed my first 6 days on the giving challenge and could feel the beginnings of a shift within my being...  I wound up traveling beginning day 6 and having an amazing, soul-nourishing visit with some dear friends (and their new babies).  Although I was giving in some form every day while I was gone, the accompanying mindfulness and reflection wasn't as present as I would have liked, so tonight I will go to bed with a heart of gratitude and tomorrow I will begin my 29 day journey… Continue

Day 4 & Day 5 (Offering and Numbers)

Day 4:  I gave the only cash I had in my purse as an offering to the church I go to.  It wasn't a lot, but I gave it with hopes that it will further others needs.

Day 5:  My boyfriend had been complaining about a tooth ache for a long time and couldn't find a dentist that was open during the hours he was off work.  Most of the time he doesn't have access to the internet.  I looked online, found a few numbers, and called a couple dentists that may work with his insurance and…

Day 1 & 2 (Round 2)

Baby clothes, who doesn’t like to look at and buy baby clothes? It is probably a good thing I don’t have children because if I did, their closets would be just has full as mine is with clothes. I love clothes! It is interesting that I love clothes because I am not what you would call a fashion expert. I enjoy jeans, sweaters and t-shirts. I like simple and comfortable. No 6 inch stilettos for me!

Over the past month I have had several friends who have had babies. I typically don’t… Continue

One

My first give away was to my good friend.  I had a purchased a dinner coupon at 1/2 price for a great new place in town that I had been eager to try, so I gave it to her instead.  Now, she can go and take her son out to dinner.  They don't get to do that very often, so it felt really good.    In fact, I'm feeling much better since losing my job on Friday.

Day 20

This afternoon I gave a broken bullhorn to a former student. Now, I know this sounds kind of weird, but this kid loves taking things apart. I've done my best to try to fix it and can't so the school ordered a new one and told me to put the old one in the trash. In the TRASH you say!?! How can I throw out a perfectly good broken bullhorn? So I tracked down this little guy and gave it to him. Chances are he'll have it working by the time he goes to bed tonight. I wonder what his older sister will… Continue

Day 29!!!

I can't believe I did it!  I have to say, a smile came over my face after I gave my 29th gift today...I feel really proud about having completed this challenge.  I went on a walk with my daughter today to get some coffee on this bitter January afternoon.  I decided I would get an extra bit of food from the coffee shop and wander around downtown to see if anyone seemed hungry; I generally walk by at least one homeless person and counted on that happening today.  I was right - and the sandwich… Continue

Round 5, Day 9: Something Different like Agreeing to be Filmed

In November, Rosie and I earned two Draft Dog titles (this is work a dog does pulling a cart).  A documentarian was there and filmed our tests.  He wrote to me today to ask if I'd agree to be interviewed for his film.  We discussed this possibility at the test and I said, "sure" -- so now I have his formal request and there's my something different for today.  :)

Here's the first rough cut, which shows the outline for a full-length documentary.  Rosie will be in the section…

Day 11 - 14

In the past few days I have given quite a bit. I just finished sewing 4 bow ties for my step daughters wedding. Dropped my spare change in the charity box at Tim's for the past 4 days, and took my mom and dad's dog for a walk yesterday. Today I gave the 29 Gifts book to a friend that I have recently reaquanted with. I know that she will enjoy the book and most likely join the challenge.

Day 17

Today's gift was a gift to myself, and it was intentional. I bought myself a pair of shoes that is soooo beautiful! I love them, and it felt so good for giving myself that gift. I have not myself such nice shoes in about 2 years, so it felt good to treat myself like that. And I do not feel guilty, because I desreve it, and it feels nice to tell myself that I deserve it. I also think I need to concentrate more in my giving, i am starting to forget the purpose of this! But I am still motivated… Continue

Day Seven

I gave a few gifts yesterday, though all were small.  One was intentional and planned, but the rest were not.  My sister spent the night, and the following morning she needed a ride to work.  I drove her and, after dropping her off, I stopped into a bakery and picked up a bagel w/cream cheese and a coffee.  She's not much of a breakfast eater, so I figured she could eat the bagel for lunch and, since she doesn't have much in the way of spare cash, it would save her a few bucks that day. …

29 NEW things I did in January!! (Day 29 Round 9)

What fun! I loved this! Trying 29 new things for January and planning to keep them up for the rest of the year! I blogged about a few.....in random order...

1. Danced! I love to dance and danced to a WIii game and didn't care if my teenagers were embarrassed!

2. Bought a new skirt even though I hate shopping and wore it!

3. Purchased a pastry bag so my daughter and I can make fancy looking iced cupcakes together!

4. Stopped my car for someone on the side…

Day Six

My intention for day six was to give a birthday present and card to one of my closest girlfriends when we saw each other on Saturday night to celebrate.  In my close-knit circle of girlfriends, we have not been in the habit of exchanging gifts for birthdays since graduating college almost four years ago and getting ever-so-busy with rather varied life paths. It has just been easier that way.  I chose to gift to her a copy of 29 Gifts, considering how much I've enjoyed it myself and how it…
