Day #8 of Giving- Round 2

Hello fellow gift-givers!
Today was Day #8 of round 2. Today I gave a gift to my friend Heather. I have been friends with Heather for awhile now and I wanted to do something nice for her. I made her a CD compilation about "shoes"...yes shoes. She loves shoes! I also got her a book with a bunch of short stories about "shoes". I put it all in a gift bag and left it on her doorstep to surprise her. It was fun putting it together! :)

Have a great night!

Days 1,2,3,4,5

Day 1: I made a card for my husband since I know that he always appreciates praise and demonstrations of love, although he seldom gets them from me. I'm not Cruella Deville, but I'm also not proud to admit that I've scrimped in this department and taken him for granted in the past. This felt really nice, and he seemed thrilled. At the time that I made the card, I wasn't feeling particularly close to him. In fact, I was feeling down-right resentful for some reason that I don't recall, but the… Continue

Day 3

Today I decided to leave my job at the end of May. This is a huge step for me. Huge. I've been waffling for months, but the straw has broken my back and I am done. I do not have anything lined up but am getting my ducks in order. Even if I don't have anything lined up when I leave, this IS the right decision for so many reasons.

I received an incredible sense of relief from the decision. DH was a little surprised that I made the decision (he's been suggesting it quite a while now), but… Continue

Day 10 - Malbec

It was my sister in-law & brother in-law's 20th anniversary today. I took them a nice bottle of Malbec in a pretty gift bag.

They are always so good about giving us cards for birthdays and anniversaries and I have traditionally been horrible about it. It felt good to be able to take them a gift on the day of the actual celebration!

Day 24 - Round 5 - Hold the Bag Please

One of the things I have been doing since I started the 29 gifts program is to try not take a plastic bag whenever I make a purchase that I can easily carry without a bag. I consider this a gift to the planet, as I know it takes a bazillion years for the bags to disintegrate. Also today, a lady with a baby in a carrier was holding the door for an older lady and I then held the door for her so she could get inside. She definitely had her hands full and was still holding the door for someone…

Day 10

I have waited too late to write and the fatigue has the best of me. This morning I mailed two cards. One to a friend who is at home recuperating from surgery and the other to my cousin who has cancer. I complimented a staff member who looked exceptionally nice today. The weather was beautiful today and I enjoyed working for a little while in the yard. I smiled often when the grandpuppy tried to steal the rake or pull off my gloves. I made him some homemade cookie treats and he actually sat… Continue

43 days and going

Another walk this morning by myself. I am noticing the bradford pear trees in full bloom now and the redbuds starting to grow. I gave myself the gift of both a walk and a much needed pedicure today. I went out to lunch with my husband today and spent some quality time with him. I watched my youngest at soccer practice and had a great talk with some of the other moms. Dinner was prepared by my husband tonight. What a day of wonderfulness!

Day 4: The gift of play

At work today I was discussing with a colleague of mine that my family (those most important in my life) often get my leftover energy; I come home from work and am tired and grumpy and aware of at least 1,000,000 that need to get done. I found myself wanting to give my kids a gift today. As I arrived home, I decided that I would play with the kids for at least 30 minutes. No checking email, getting dinner started or talking on the cell phone. It was a beautiful day outside and the girls were… Continue

Round 3 - Days 4 and 5

I noticed a bunch of papers in the lunch room sink, and then some on the floor. I picked them all up and tossed them out for those who had grazed before my arrival. One was a 50-cent coupn off a pack of Marlboro's - I threw that out too. If someone doesn't buy a pack of those killers for the lack of 50 cents, good!

Buying some Easter cards to mail today, I stopped in the bulk food section of the store. Karen at work often buys stuff there, like jawbreakers, carmel squares -…

Days 9, 10, and 11

Day 9 - Prayers - I am trying to work on praying more often, so I set time aside to say prayers for my family and friends. I hope they all received many blessings!

Day 10 - I normally hate to take the garbage out, but I thought I would give a gift to my husband by taking over that duty this week. I don't think he knew how to react! :)

Day 11 - Today I gave the gift of time. I had so much to do during my planning time at work today, but I set aside some time to make a few… Continue

Janet's Birthday

Today was my best friend's birthday. It's our spring break and we are on a road trip together to many different colleges. I realize I have been very selfish lately. I am always talking Janet's ear off about my own problems, so I made an extra effort today to not talk about myself at all and to keep all of the focus on my friend for her birthday. I concentrated on her all day and was there to listen (which doesn't happen often because I talk so much.)

Day 24 - Stretch Deep and Say ahh...

I was talking to my students about different styles of yoga tonight. I brought up Forrest Yoga, and how it was intense, but offers a huge release of both stress and tightness in the body. Fortunately, the folks there tonight were some of my more experienced students, so I got to lead them through a Forrest sequence. I saw a lot of bliss at the end of class, as we let go of a lot of "holding" tonight. Just in time for the holiday weekend!!! LOL!

R3 ends: New Lungs for CHUCK

As some of you can tell, I've let round 3 go by without much blogging.....but I can see that it's impacted my mindful daily giving. Many days of this round I've been making quilts for charity and counted that as my give for the day. Whatever other gives I had were more from naturally floating into them, rather than my choosing them. There was often an email connection or a phone call, making a CD copy for a friend, helping a friend understand the Qi Gong…

Round Five Day 14

Today I visited one of my regular patients who is in a subacute facility. I brought some apple turnovers for him to enjoy. That's a small gift du jour. XO

~Day 11~

I re-connected with a former coach/teacher on Facebook recently and today I wrote her and told her what a great teacher she was and what fond memories I have of participating in gymnastics. She wrote back and told me I made her day and that as a retired teacher she doesn't hear that too often. Such a small gesture to reach out and say "Thank-you" to a coach or teacher who invested time in your education & future.…

Gift of Beauty <3

Two of my cousins age 16, and 13 have been asking for haircuts, and I have been very busy with my full time job and with my awesome hair clients whom I travel to see on the side. I finally made it over to see them and gave them free haircut/styling. Simple as that.

Day 10 - March 30, 2010

A very busy day today, as I was cooking for tonight's Passover dinner which we were sharing with several friends and family members. I had spent most of Monday cooking for tonight's dinner, as well. By early afternoon, all of my dishes were cooked and in the fridge, ready to be heated up in time for dinner. I have never before had everything ready so early on the day of a holiday! Great feeling. I decided to share the joy by bringing two bagfuls of food and pet food over to our local food… Continue

Day 25--Lending an ear, lending a voice

Heat wave in Chicagoland and it is glorious to take in the sun!

Today I gave via a difficult phone call to a family member who is really taking the recent death of my brother quite hard. He was able to unload and organize his thoughts and all I really had to do was listen. Easier said than done: I felt my body tighten and mind start reeling a few times, but I just allowed my self to breathe, reminded my body to relax, I took a step back from my own emotions and thoughts, I reminded… Continue
