Grandma Crawford would have been 118 years old today. It amazes me the lessons that she taught have lasted throughout my life. That very fact has taught me to be careful what I teach my children and grandchildren because good or bad the lesson will be remembered.
I was lucky to have two wonderful Grandmas, I have already written about Grandma Elsie and some of the lessons she taught me.
Today I want to share some of Grandma Crawford with you. As I… Continue

I woke up at 2am yesterday morning and thought …. OMG, I think the 29 days are up… actually, they are more than up.
I am not a blogger as I am too verbose and it’s too time consuming to email everybody I need to so something has to go. However, I thought I’d ‘check’ in and let you all know that some of the silent ones are out there doing what this website & challenge is all about.
Today, I spent making a list of what I remembered doing in the past month, as I’m also… Continue

I cannot believe that tomorrow is my 29th day. I wonder what my give(s) will be on my last day. Right now, I have no idea.
I am wondering whether I will continue to do a daily blog. Sometimes, that is hard for me, especially on the days that I have nothing much to report. I sometimes feel almost a resentment that I have to “fess up” to my lack of giving. And sometimes, I feel that same resentment about having to come up with some kind of giving act to write about. On the other… Continue

today i helped James get ready to go to Denver for his cousin's memorial. i renewed his auto insurance for him - he had let it lapse due to his unemployed status. i sent him off with some snacks and a cooler full of Mountain Dews. he will pick up his cousin Mike on the way so at least he will have company.
then i helped my husband finish building the dog pen for Mama's big dog. it was hard, hot work, but it was worth it to see the dog run around in joyful circles and the smile on… Continue

Today my gift was the gift of my time and focus. With many others I am certain, I share the title of Queen Multi-tasker. Always doing two or three things at a time, always running just a few minutes late since I am trying to pack a thousand things into one day. Today I tried to be present in each moment, with each interaction. Starting the day by treating my mom, brother, niece and stepdaughter to brunch. Enjoying a shopping spree with my husband and stepdaughter and ending the day with dinner… Continue

Gave away another two bags of clothes today. Clothes my sons have outgrown. Gave them to my cousin who has a son younger than my boys. That was a pretty easy give. I'm thinking I need/want to step it up some this week. Be more thoughtful about my gives....

Hi, my friends! I have been absent for quite some time but I'm still giving.
I'm in a hurry so I'll write more later.
Sending love & blessings

Today I spent half an hour exploring my way around the underside of one
leaf. Peering at this one leaf through a microscope was like going for a whole bush walk!!! I found all sorts of fascinating features, holes, oil glands and hairy bits.
The occasion was an interactive session at Canberra's Botanical Gardens, where I was able to pretend I was Darwin for a few hours. I even pressed and my first flower, documenting it in the same manner as botanists for hundreds of… Continue

today's give was moral support. to give a little background, my older two children lived with my sister in law for several years as i was not able to take care of them. she had two kids, Michelle and Michael, and they were all like sisters and brothers. Michelle had a son while she was still in high school, my kids were 7 and 5 when he was born. so he was like another brother. he turned 22 last fall.
anyway. my sister in law called me today with horrible news. Michelle's son Jonathan… Continue

I am drawing a blank as to what I gave today. I'm sure I gave something, but nothing special comes to mind. I kept looking for moments to give, but nothing showed up, or maybe I just missed them. I'm not sure, but I feel like I failed today and I need a do-over!

Today I celebrated a big cumulative "give." I retired from four years of volunteer service on my college's alumnae association executive board. I gave A LOT of my time over the last four years serving on this board, but I also received a lot as well. It was a rewarding experience, and reflecting on it reminded me how giving "time" is probably the best "give."

Today my giving was super easy as it involved some of my favorite people in the world...my grandparents. About a year and half ago we had to move them into an assisted care senior home. This was an incredibly difficult decision for my family and I as both my grandparents have always been fiercely independent, but when my grandfather suffered multiple strokes and almost overnight dementia we were left with little other choice. I visit them often but I feel nothing makes them more excited than… Continue

I devoted most of today to running errands and getting little things done around the house. There were dishes to be washed, a floor to be cleaned, checks to take to the bank, mail to be picked up at the Post Office, and supplies to get in town.
While at my quick stop at the Post Office, I gave without thinking. I held the door open for the person who was exiting behind me, out of habit more than anything else ...... the guy gave a hearty "thank you." If he hadn't thanked me, I don't… Continue

Because of something I read on this site, I took an opportunity to give yesterday that I might not have otherwise. We had a big gust of wind that knocked over many of the big recycle bins that had been placed on the curbs. Of course, each bin was full, so there was quite a mess made when they turned over. I picked ours up and our good neighbors’ next door. I noticed the “bad” neighbor’s had also turned over. I stood there and thought about how rude they’ve been to us and nearly everybody around… Continue

thank you so much for all your kind words - there's a real community feel for this website.
It was very encouraging to hear that other people started with family and friends before moving on strangers.
Like the lady who gave to the military and also the one where she gave to strangers who looked like they needed a pick me up!
LETS KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

With my beautiful wife and child out of town, I am being a hermit this weekend- only leaving the house for shopping or the occasional walk. Interesting timing to be a hermit though, because I began to wonder what I was going to give
today, given I wasn't really seeing anyone. I realise there are plenty of other channels through which to give (including this wonderful internet invention of ours), but I thought I'd just see what presented itself in these hermit… Continue

Today was a crazy day! Last night I fell going UP the stairs (don't ask, lol). I didn't demolish myself completely, but I did hurt my hand a little and tweaked my neck. Needless to say I was in PAIN today after all that. I spent a good part of the day in bed, because it was easier (less painful) to lay down than to sit up. I hadn't plannedto do anything else for the rest of the day, but then I remembered that my son had been looking forward to me making one of his favorite meals for dinner… Continue
