Today I donated $61 in honor of my father to Charity Water. I decided to try and see if my friends (here and elsewhere) can help me raise $4,000 to build one well in Ethiopia. This well will serve an entire village and give 400 people in Ethiopia clean water for 20 years.
The Charity Water campaign is so cool. They encourage everyone who has a September birthday to donate their birthday gifts (in the form of cash) to help build wells to bring clean water to African villiages. This…

Day 15 was pretty low-key. My husband wasn't feeling well, so I went and grocery shopped without him. Since he's been out of work, he's been cooking dinner for me a lot and I wanted to repay the favor. After that I spent some more time in the yard ripping out weeds (or just ugly plants - I'm not sure). That's a gift to myself, my husband and my neighbors!
Day 16 we spent some time with my family. My cousin and his wife just had their second child. She loves anything with stars and I…

Today was another good day out in the garden.
Here are the 5 best things that happened today which includes the gifts of the day!
1. I got to sleep in until 9:00am, I haven't done that in a while and when I woke up I headed over to the office to spend some time in 29 gifts page.
2. My mom and I went and bought some herbs in the garden and while we were out my bestfriend asked me to get her some things so we did that.
3. We headed back to the garden and spent some…

I sent an email to about 60 people telling them about 29 Gifts and one of them called me today about it. I went to art school with her and haven't talked to her in over 4 years. She loves the whole idea and is going to pass along the message to all of her friends. PLUS, her dad just moved into a new house and is having a house blessing today with a large group of his Buddhist friends and my friend is going to talk up 29 Gifts to everyone there. She is really into this and wants to share it with…

I have a young fellow that comes to me for guidance quite a bit in his life, He's a single full time Dad and being a single parent is hard. He takes care of his daughter all by himself for personal reasons the child's Mom is just not ready to be a Mom.
I gave him a 30 minute free psychic reading tonight... He just needed reassurance that he's on the right path with career and love...
Love and Blessings,
Rebecca

Today I gave . . . . . . .ummm . . . . . . not a heck of a lot, apparently. I guess I gave some free time and effort on my part by going into school this morning to work reading part of my students' getting-to-know-you letters. That doesn't feel like a give normally, but today I was fairly good-spirited going in instead of resenting it. (It's early in the school year; I'm sure resentment will rear its head by November.)
I sent some flair on facebook, but that isn't really giving,…

Yesterday was our 10th annual End of Summer party here at the house. My folks picked up the kids around 2:30 (to keep them overnight), and right after that, Geoff and I each plugged into our iPods and busted some serious hump getting the house event-ready. As usual, we worked on the cleaning and the prep right up until the first guests arrived around 7:00. After that, the night was a happy blur. I tried two new appetizer recipes that I had chosen for their seeming simplicity and yummy-factor.…

I took an exam (to be more exact, the only state exam that Japan offers for foreign languages - once you have this exam you can officially guide people around the country's temples, shrines etc. It's unbelievable that a G8 nation should still use volunteers to staff their court interpreters! They'd better start a system there somehow!)
On the way back I met up with my Japanese teacher from university and her husband and three-year-old daughter. As a kid I always hated clothes-presents,…

I haven't been as giving as I had hoped either this week. After my grandmother funeral I have been down and really wondered what kind of difference can I make in this world. If I can stop being selfish and just be full of love and giving then I would become a better man. In a way that is why I have joined this site and I wonder should I reset my counter or just keep going and on day thirty start day one again. I think I will be doing day thirty as day 1.2 when I complete the second round of…

I think when one has been overloaded with life's stuff, something gives. That something is me :). I've had many events take place in one week. My estranged brother of nine years walked back into my life. I gained a new sister in-law. Before I could get my feet on the ground, my daughter went into labor nine weeks early.
What I haven't written about is the night I stood in the labor/delivery room with my daughter. I couldn't sit because here was my baby having a baby too early. In…

Day Two
Today I got ready for work a little early so that I could stop at my favorite smoothie place. When I went to get my smoothie, and with out my friend knowing, I picked up one for her too. On top of that, my favorite person was working today at the smootie shop, and as it turns out she won at her cross-country meet yesterday. I was so happy to hear the good news.
Today is off to a great start.
SMILES! :-D

DAY 25
AUG 26
Volunteered at the Prison. This group is such a challenge this time around. I just feel like their hearts are extra-caloused. I am one of those rare individuals that actually believe they want to change and hope in my heart of hearts that they one day will. There are a few "special" ones in my group. One who is headed in the right direction and the other isn't - but what potential he has if he only would realize it. He's dynamic and influential - in all the wrong ways. I…

I just joined, so am trying to figure out how to do this.
Day 1, yesterday, I clicked on Freekibblekat.com and helped donated kibble just by clicking to shelters.
Day 2 Had a party for some friends, introducing new people in the area to some of my friends~ then we went out to see Menopause The Musical, for a howlin' good time!
I am hoping to get lots of new ideas on how to give, by joining this site. I guess I will learn to get around on the computer a little better, since this…

Family is still around they completly took over my home, I have two options get ready upset to see the house completely messy and upside down or practice the art of detachment and and patience. During the morning we visited a lovely city just 1 hour away from the place where I live. In spite of the weather we had a good time with 3 kids aged from 2 to 7 the smaller ones wanting different things, running away from us, or shouting again the art of patience was put into practice. On the way back…

I'm excited to have signed up for 29gifts but after talking it over with my fiance (she signed up too) we've decided to begin our 29 days after our wedding. The wedding is on Saturday and a week after the wedding we go to Argentina for 20 days so the majority of our giving days will be in a foreign country. This should make for extra interesting giving and the perfect way to give back since so many loved ones gave to us in order to make our honeymoon possible. Until then happy giving!

Yet another box to charity. It feels so empowering to cut the strings between yourself and material things, and realise you don't really need them. My new rule is, if I think someone else might enjoy them more or need them more than i do, they go.

Yesterday we were evacuated from the New Orleans Convention of NA. My friends, their families and the entire New Orleans community needs pray and encouragment. Gustav has given them rememberance of Katrina's devastation in 2003. Please give a moment of silence for them daily. Speak their survial into existence. Thank You.
