Day 16 A gift for my dogs

The gift of a playdate. A winnie dog playdate. I have two extra children that god has entrusted me with and their names are beefcake and cheesecake. They are dachshunds and extremely adorable.

Since starting my gift giving challenge a friend of mine at work who also owns dachshunds has been trying to get me to commit to a playdate. I usually just backout citing conflicting schedules but recently she has been more aggressive. I finally thought Ok that could be my gift for the day but…

Day Three

I still have my migraine today so I wasn't focused.

There wasn't one *big* gift that called to me, so I did some little ones:

- I noticed my cats nosing around some old toys so I made them fresh toys with their favorite catnip.

- I dropped off my daughter from TaeKwanDo so my husband could get a little rest (and didn't get grumpy about it, which I sometimes do when I have to leave the house last minute!)

- and the last one just jumped at me and sort of spoke to me a… Continue

Day 12 - Lifted Bones

Another day spent investigating medical help. Big self give; this inquiry might aid me with day-to-day functioning.

Did initial intake; soon to follow up with 6 hours of testing. Not a very exciting give, but a practical one.

Walking out of the doctor's office, I felt a deep relief getting help, like big weights had been lifted from my bones. A calm washed over me. No longer do I have to carry my burdens by myself; there are others before me who have dealt with MS and… Continue

VJG 09/30/10 Parade Candy

VJG 09/30/10 Parade Candy

Remember when we were kids and they through candy out from the parade? Kids scrambled as fast as they could in all directions to catch the candy. Some things never change, my friends.

My gifts today included giving candy from the parade to several young children that stood near me, anxiously awaiting their next gold rush of whatever other candy they could catch and put into their bags. Kids will be kids. They loved getting the extra…

9/30 (2) Left-overs Are Going "Out the Window"

The Universe has a way of whispering into our ears and nudging our hearts along in such a way that we are lifted out of our "normal operating mode".

This happened to me this past summer during a getaway to Albuquerque. Bob was attending a conference and invited me to go along. Excited about the idea of exploring another area of New Mexico on foot and, hopefully, taking some inches off my waistline, I quickly agreed.…

Day 9-recipe, 55 cents, and a listening ear

Today I covered 55 cents on someone's order at the bookstore and she was very appreciative. It was not a busy day and I seemed to have several customers who wanted to share some part of their day or journey with me, so I listened intently. Finally, rsbills suggested I share my cookie recipe so I will. My mother-in-law gave it to me at my shower, as it is my husband's favorite (and since I don't think she'll be reading this, he says I make them better!).

My Story and Day 1: Staying Late

A week or so ago I was at the library looking for books on kindness. I came across the 29 Gifts book and it looked intriguing! So I requested it. My husband brought it home on Monday night. I didn't find it on the coffee table until Tuesday night. How exciting!!!

I have suffered with depression since my Senior year of High School. This past summer was really the worst. I went through a whole roller coaster of emotions. One minute I could be excited and laughing. The next…

Day Eleven: Giving to the Unseen

Day 11 saw me giving to a couple people that typically go ignored in the hustle and bustle of LA life. The first was a woman camped outside of Trader Joe's grocery doing some fundraising for a local school for troubled youth. It's so tempting to go striding right by people like her, and initially part of me wanted to do exactly that--had to go here, had to go there, traffic was getting thick, better hurry--but then I remembered.

So I pulled out the money I'd had in my pocket and… Continue

Day 21

I was in Target for some cold medication because I am sick as a dog. While there a frantic, frazzled mom was trying to find Mighty Beanz (a little toy) for her son. She had no idea what they were, and neither did the Target employee. I did, so I told her what and where they were located in the store. I hope I made some little boy's day brighter, because they will be waiting for him when he gets home from school.

Day 1 - round 2 - starting over

My life has been crazy over the past couple months so I stopped doing 29 days. Am trying to start up again.

Today I donated to my cousin's drive to walk for breast cancer this weekend.

Day 3- A sunny day!!

Thank you so much to everyone that has taken the time to welcome me!!! It means so much!!! And thank you for reading and commenting on my posts! It's really been keeping me motivated to keep giving and telling the stories about the gifts! Thanks again!!!

One of my favorite authors is Emily Giffin. A few weeks ago I requested her newest book from the library. There were a few people on the list ahead of me so I just had to patiently wait. On Tuesday the library called. The book was… Continue

Day 6

Today I gave the book 'Teach us to Sit Still' by Tim Parks, to a client of mine who has chronic pain.

I am reading it at the moment and I must say it is brilliant. I woul like to quote this from his foreword:

I never expected to write a book about the body. Least of all my body. How indiscreet. But then I never expected to be ill in the mysterious, infuriating way I have. Above all it never occurred to me that an illness might challenge my deepest…

Day 14

At the first of the year, rather than make a New Year's Resolution, (which I rarely keep), I made a 'to-do list' for myself for the year that I thought may help me grow as a person, and challenge me to stretch outside of my comfort zone, to try new things this year. I liked my list and decided to share it with others. My sister & I host a monthly class/meeting with others who have chosen to also use the list as a guideline for the year. My time & support during this month's class were… Continue

Day 5 for Shoshana

I gave several gifts: one to myself. My body was telling me I was worn down by work, so I rested; I gave a board game that I had never opened to a new coffee house that opened in my neighborhood and has games for customers to play; and I bought flowers and cards for two clients who were extremely unhappy with the outcome (and me) in a litigation matter.

I considered whether the last gifts were somehow bribes so the clients wouldn't be mad at me or an apology for a mistake I committed.… Continue

Day 11

I tried to give but again was thwarted at many turns. A friend helped me with something and I hoped to buy him lunch but he knew I am feeling down about my girl so he insisted on getting lunch.

Tonight I was out with my agent and a few of his clients at a posh Korea Town karaoke bar. I ordered a few drinks for myself and a couple of the actresses that were there, one of which I know well and actually acted in my last feature film. At the end of the night it turned out that someone else took… Continue

Day13 - Round 4 (September 28, 2010) - Ticket to a show and Yogurt with fruit and granola

I didn't eat my yogurt with fruit and granola for breakfast. I sent an email to my three nieces that all go to school on campus and told them that if they want the yogurt to swing by my office to pick it up. It is one way for me to see them. :) My niece Ian was the first one to come to my office. I gave it to her and she said that it is her favorite breakfast. PERFECT!

We went to see a show on campus this evening. Since my friend couldn't come, she gave me her ticket. I asked my… Continue

Today was a great day. Last day of the challenge. Let's see I called two dear friends who i don't get to see near as much as i would like. Tracy who lives in Houston, and Chrissy in Minneapolis. Both always let me ramble on and both laugh at my lame ass jokes. Chrissy shared that she has been reading my blog!!!

Gift one, I walked towards my Dr.'s office I noticed newspapers everywhere. I picked it up and threw it away.

I worked today in Lawrence, Rahim and i always talk. He reminds me… Continue

Still Here II

Hi all. Decided to add another blog since I don't catch you all at the same time. In the last 10 to 14 days I have, given to others around here even if I missed someone in the group or groups I am in. In Al-Anon I gave to much. I thought what I had to say to some new comers was worth more then others at the meeting. Afterwards I realized I didn't make a lot of sense to myself much less them. I really need to get this stay quiet thing down better!! Maybe a gift I give myself?…
