Took my DIL's mother to bank to cash her social security check and get money orders. Took her to the grocery store to wire money and get groceries. Took DIL to get her acrylic nails removed because she said they hurt as her own nails were growing out. She settled on a manicure. Gave tip to server. Happy New Year everyone!! My receives were DIL's mother gave me cabbage and black eyed peas. She said to fix them on New Years Day for good luck throughout the year.

Day 1: Bought a $1 Real Change from a woman selling the paper on the street corner. The day had whizzed by at 65 mph. It was already around dinner time; forward momentum was paused for just a moment by the red stop light. I couldn't think of anything I had "given" yet for the day. I was hoping to start sooner rather than later. Carpe Diem. I unzipped my wallet and rolled down the window. The light turned green, she crossed back to the intersection where she stood to sell to the next passerby as…

My last day of giving in my first cycle was two days ago, but yesterday, when I was going to write about it, I got some possibly distressing medical news. I haven't been able to think about much else since, and thanks to the joys of Google, I've been finding information which has alternately reassured and disturbed me, depending on what I look up next. TMI can be a blessing and a curse. I won't get the results from the biopsy (see, there's a word you just don't want to hear) for 10 days to two…

Today is another up and down day. I went to yoga class for the first time in over a week and wow, did I need it. I cried at the end of class, as we shared at tea time. The emotions just come out and out and out. I brought bougie candles to my yoga teacher so she can use them in the center. She was thrilled! bougie candles are 100% soy candles with pure essential oils, made by my friend Andrea, who is the best babysitter. I also gave Penny, my yoga teacher, about 50 small Aveda hand creams to…

I traveled to Illinois a few days before Christmas to help my parents prepare for the holidays, and my husband was planning to join us on Christmas Eve afternoon. Well, Mother Nature had other ideas and the unbelievable winter storms extinguished all hope of a Christmas together with the family. As disappointed as I felt at the way that events unfolded, I could hear the distress in my husband's voice too. The only gift that I could hold out to him at such a distance was to assure him that I…

I'm feeling pulled in my emotions . . on one hand I haven't posted anything for a week. There were actually a few days in there when I didn't do a 'give', or if I did a 'give' I wasn't in the right mindspace for it to count . . . On the other hand, I feel that I would be more mindful and willing if I wasn't posting. It makes me feel like I 'have' to give . . that someone is watching me and I have to live up to certain standards. So. . . I'm going to take a posting break.
I absolutely LOVE…

Although this day is not over I had the pleasure of giving to gifts today. The first gift was to my mother. I gave her an apology that she truly deserved from my actions yesterday. She gave an explanation for why she did what she did after I apologized. The second gift was to my cousin. I know she likes food. I had intended on eating a bowl of greens (the ones my friend made) while I was at the hair salon with my cousin. Instead of eating the food I gave it to her. That made her very…

Day 6 was an opportunity to give a little gift of thanks to the woman who cuts/styles my hair as well as my daughters'. My youngest happened to have a hair cut scheduled yesterday so we brought a box of chocolates and a note of thanks. With working full time and raising two girls, I certainly value the space she creates for me when I go and get my haircut. It is always a treat to just sit, read a magazine, talk about movies and our kids as well as walking away feeling a little pampered. It felt…

Today I wrote a letter to someone who I've never met, but whose story I read in The Sun magazine. It was a Readers Write piece, and this woman wrote something very brave and honest about dying of cancer. In the past I would have wanted to write her a letter, but would have felt too shy or too busy to ever get around to it. This 29-day giving challenge gave me the umph I needed to write it.

It was my husband's birthday which is usually a small affair seeing as how it's right after Christmas. My kids and I went out to get his present - a "snuggie" since he keeps stealing theirs. As we drove we were suddenly hit by inspiration. Our son got a bike for Christmas and wants to start taking bike rides and my husband's bike is broken. Perfect present and a big one instead of the usual little one.
So in we came with a new bike in hand for his birthday so happy that we finally…

My difficult loan closing actually happened today! Blessings upon Blessings, FHA rules & short sell crap---anyway, the realtor I have been working on this loan with is awesome. She referred me this client after a loan closing we had last month together & we really enjoyed working with each other. She was very stressed & needed this to close this year for her books & work situation. So, I was very happy this did. One of the "rule" of this 29 day challenge is to give something…

On the 3rd day I gave our neighbor a Huge Elie's cheesecake & a thank you note for their kindness to us for this year.
I spend way to much time in my home, this has made me see these past 8 days just how many people I could write
notes of thank you to for just being kind to my family . We are so blessed ! Bonnie

Day 15
Called on account of rain - I just had enough energy yesterday to focus on taking care of my sons. I tried to focus and figure out what I was giving or could give but nothing was coming to me. (See my last post.)
Day 15 again
1. Let people into traffic all over town
2. Smiles and friendly intentions towards other parents at a busy children's New Year's party. So many scowls and frowns there. At least two other people noticed my smiles and perked up with smiles…

I had an appointment today so dropped my kids off at my sisters with my gift for the day a bag of homemade chocolate chip cookies. I know the kids will love them. Tonight is New Years Eve and my boyfriend is coming over for dinner and movies. He offered to buy dinner but he doesn't yet know that dinner is on me as an additional gift for the day. happy new year everyone.

Today I expressed my gratitude to my grandma for allowing me to live here with her and my grandpa. It has worked out well for all of us involved - due to my health, it's hard to live alone, and due to her health, she needs someone around too. She was laying on the couch and I decided it was a good time to give her a GOOD thank-you.
As this year ends, and a new one begins, I think that this giving challenge is helping me to start off the new year in a good way. May everyone who reads…

Today I sent e-greetings to several friends who have been particularly generous to me during the last couple of years, always available to listen and to offer wise and compassionate counsel. I told them how much I value and appreciate their friendship.
I am giving the hosts of tonight's New Year's party a beautiful box of wonder-smelling soaps.
And gifts for me? An invitation to lunch next week and an invitation to a movie on Saturday. And my therapist, knowing I was…

To sum it all up.....I am 47 yrs old and 2009 has been the most difficult year of my life. I am trying to focus on some sunny spots:
My husband and I celebrated our 20th anniversary,,,our family is still together despite all of this chaos in our lives.
29 Gifts- I started Thanksgiving and it's been a blessing beyond words!
My business is almost 10 years old and despite our family crisis and the economy, I am still here.
I have my parents, in-laws and sisters and their…

Today was my first day of giving! I got excited when an inspiration came to pack a tupperware container full of fresh cut pineapple for a friend to take on the train with her. She loved it and I felt good. Had a little voice saying, "oh, that's such a little gift, does that even count?" but I let that go and gave my gift and gave myself credit! Fun!
