We just got word the 29 Gifts book will soon be placed in Anthropogie stores nationwide. This is HUGE because it is one of my favorite stores. We also received a HUGE literary award; the details of which are confidential until February, so stay tuned for more exciting news.

AND, if all that wasn't…

monday and tuesday

hey,

monday I made the greatest gift ever, it made me feel so happy! and mischievous! I made eight little cards and wrote positive messages on them. then, when I walked home from the station I left those cards here and there. I didn't wanna be caught so I was looking around me all the time I felt so giddy!

yesterday evening I still hadn't given anything yet, mindfully that is. but then my love and me came to talk about my parts. being a student, a wife, a…

It begins tomorrow (though today may count)

I read the 29 gifts today. I mean....I got the book today and read it all the way through in a few hours! I was very inspired by what I read. I said in my profile that I found out I have the scarcity mentality even though I have lived a life of abundance. Weird, huh? Anyway, I think this is what I have been looking for. I don't have any preconceived ideas on what I shall receive. I want to see what happens. That is very unlike me not to plan, but what the heck, what do I have to lose? Lets just… Continue

Life's strange turns...

Just when you think things can't get any worse....

After a summer battle with my lupus I was getting my bearings when i discovered my kid sister (yes, still a kid at 54) had been hiding a breast lump for many months. It began an oddysey of doctors, hospitals and tests until we learned it was an invasive ductal carcinoma and she is triple negative. That group, less than 15% of breast cancers, does not get any of the new targeted treatmenst...only the old chemo and radiation. With here…

Good Giving Weekly: Embracing Everything Anew

Hi, 29 Givers!

I am loving my first Fall in 15 years. I snuck away to the mountains last weekend just in time to enjoy the last few Aspens (and everything else) changing colors. I officially moved to Denver, Colorado, during September, so I am embracing all kinds of change right now. New home for me and pup Charlie. New people to meet. New neighborhood and community to explore. …

Day 9

I went to the beach with 6 other girls with whom I attended high school 25 years ago. We've reconnected thanks to a social web site, and this is our 2nd annual beach get-away. Two of us woke early one morning to go out to watch the sun rise on the beach, cameras in hand. We took beautiful pictures of the sunrise & occasionally there were people walking along the beach that we captured in our shots. We both used this opportunity as our gifts for the day. We decided to let those people know… Continue

Boomerang Effect

I had an AHA moment last week about the whole giving thing. Giving is like a boomerang--you throw it out there and, at some point, from a direction least expected, it comes back to you.

Well, my boomerang came back a few times last week and it felt really nice. I got a HUGE package of goodies from my friends mom in Hawaii. I came home to find fresh picked peaches in a bag by my door, and I was invited in to a neighbors house as a treat. Carmen (the neighbor who lost her dog) helped… Continue

VJG 09/02/10 The Last Mozarrella Stick

VJG 09/02/10 The Last Mozarrella Stick

It all began years ago when my sister Lisa and I would go to Mc Donald’s after school. We would share a small order of French fries and talk about our day or about whatever was on our mind at the time. One time when we neared the end of the fries, pretty soon my sister holds up the last French fry as a gift to me. What a sweet…

VJG 08/23/10 Life is Made of Three Parts: Joy, Pain, and Ordinary

VJG  08/23/10  Life is Made of Three Parts: Joy, Pain, and Ordinary
I have learned this pearl of wisdom from a good friend: "Life is made up of three parts: Joy, Pain, and Ordinary."

We all want our lives to be filled with joyful times; of course those are the easy times in our lives when things are going smoothly and we are having more fun. In fact, life also gives us ordinary times…

The Circle of Gratitude

Yesterday afternoon's mail held a deep and gratifying gift for me, but it's contents were addressed to my daughter from my second cousin Emma.

Emma is a beautiful accomplished young twenty something living in NYC. She writes for Tree Hugger and is soooo talented. I find her to be one of the most engaging and interesting people i know.

Growing up she was a mess. Sullen, portly, miserable and awkward. She was deeply lonely and very very…

29 baby blankets for 29 special families!

I started a group months ago called blankets4babies on here. At that time, I was trying to declutter my life as well as my house and had contacted a nearby Iowa hospital to see if they could use some blankets (in order to get rid of an abundance of yarn). An administrator at the hospital let me know that they were always in need of blankets for families who had lost their beloved angels. I had never really thought about it but, she said that often these families come in with nothing and then… Continue

Good Giving Weekly: Are the Waters of Your Life Flowing?

Medicine Woman and Mother of the 29 Gifts Movement, Mbali Creazzo, reminds us that water is connected to healing, peace and reconciliation. She appealed to our community, asking us to bring all of our gifts to the world and send prayers for the water to heal in the Gulf Spill.

Prayer Request (5 of 29 Days of Expression)

Tonight I must ask for a gift from all of you. Please send prayers to my friends who are all feeling the loss of baby Lilly. I shot some touching footage today but am too tired to attempt to edit it. Below is Lilly's obituary for those of you who like to use names on your

prayer lists.

All Stired Up

Took a rose from my yard to work yesterday and received many comments and compliments. It made for great fun and satisfaction.

Told my neighbor how much I am using and enjoying my "George Foreman Grill" and I decided after I would go buy a family sized one and give it to them this weekend. They are very good to me. More on that later.

I have given a dollar to the "High Way Exit" folks a couple of times now. One gal said she was six dollars away from turning her lights back… Continue

Expect Nothing. Accept Everything. (1 of 29 Days of Expression)

This is my new moto: Expect Nothing. Accept Everything. Over the past several months, I've been faced with many endings. The divorce with Mark. Dating and losing someone new who I loved. Losing both of my cats. I could go on and on listing, but you get the point. Instead of accepting and embracing these changes, I've found myself feeling angry and resentful. Acceptance is my theme for today. It's the gift I offer myself.

I love it when a good… Continue

Can you hear me now?

The greatest lesson and insight I have come upon is that I need to "listen to myself." I have these recurring and sad dreams for years that I have no voice, that my closest relatives are ignoring me, etc. Well I come to find out that we are each piece of our own dream. Not sure if that makes sense, but it's not my relatives ignoring me...it's me ignoring me. Pretty deep. So I am trying to listen to myself. I know I have all the tools and things I need to succeed, yet I keep on with my "pity…

A princess not a granny!

A woman at work was shopping for Easter basket treats. Another woman said to her "your grandchildern are going to like that". Now this woman is 41 (like myself). She has young children and is not even close to being a grandma! She does not even look like a grandma! She is hip and youthful looking! She was very disturbed by the comment, as anyone would be (that is not a grandma). Knowing that she has had someother things going on in her life I knew I had to do something. I put a crown with… Continue
