No yardstick for acts of kindness
I'm learning that giving a large check to a non-profit ( which I can't), sharing a kind word, or anything inbetween can be a gift of equal importance.. We are not the judge of it's impact. We are NOT the Judge.
In fact, when I paid someone for a task yesterday, I came home and wish I tipped them. Instead of beating myself up, I took it as a gift from the Universe…

Giving is Good for Your Health
About two to three months ago, I was watching a morning show. Tony Robbins was on their talking about giving Random Acts of Kindness. He is big on this. One of the things he said I thought was very interesting.
Giving is good for your health!
After giving a random act of kindness on five consecutive days, you have enough "good stuff adrenaline" for your body to run on for three weeks!
I decided to give it a try because I had never paid…

Winter Bag
8 April 2013 Day 12 of my Challenge So today, I gave a 'winter bag.' I live in Montana, where the winters are notoriously unforgiving. We quite honestly didn't used to have any homeless people--too risky with the freezing factor. However, now we have warming shelters and food shelters in the winter and have our share of homeless folks. Often, these people can be found on street corners + at stop signs, asking for any kind of help. Thus--I prepare 'winter bags' every fall. They are duffel…

Every Day a Gift
Sounds like I was going to say some quote about each day didn't it? Except that it's not that insightful.
I'm not sure about whether to start over or not. The funny thing is not that I forget to give something but that I forget to blog about it and then can't remember what I did. LOL

Today was our monthly all-staff meeting at work (a Church preschool). I had signed up to share a devotional at the beginning of the meeting and decided to share my love of random acts of kindness. I wanted to start off by sharing something kind with everyone, so yesterday I asked for suggestions here on the blog. I decided to start the meeting by leaving a card in everyone's seat with words of encouragement & a piece of chocolate. Here are a few of the cards:

Holiday Giving
It's the holidays. I usually don't do much shopping since there are so few children in my extended family. And when almost everyone is older there is very little that they want or need. Our extended family is blessed in that we don't need anything. This year I find myself looking for ways to give outside the family especially to those in need. I remember there was one Christmas as a young child that the only gift I received was from a neighbor. So this year I decided to donate to a couple…

Giving Bunny Project
Since the Universe has decided I clearly need *another* project in my life (LOL - I think), I came across The Giving Bunny Project today. Can't. Resist. Making. Cute. Bunnies. ;) Yeah, I don't need to finish the 30 or so other projects I have half-done in my craft room, nope! ;)
Actually it will kind of replace the Toy Society, which has been somewhat inactive since the main blogger had a baby. ;) Wonder what's…

Paying it forward
In my last post I told my story about giving my neighbor ice cream and as Cami teaches in 29gifts we need to learn to receive as well.
It stands to reason that we as givers can only help perpetuate the beauty and life enhancements that giving to others can only help enhance the lives of everyone. The more we give, the more we want to give and the more we will receive. We are not to have the expectation of receiving but it will happen, usually when you least expect it.
If I…

wow, I was looking back at how long it's been since I was at this site. Its been a longg while. BUT none the less, this challenge changed my life. I STILL give every single day. Most days I give over and over all day. Some days, I over-give. It makes me feel that good :)

The Gift of Give
I have begun volunteering again. This Saturday I will be of service for "Heal The Bay." It will be nice to provide cleanup along the coast. Volunteering is wonderful, I appreciate the opportunity so much. I had been of service last week at the L.A. Mission and was happy to meet a man with smiling eyes. I did not get his name as I was wondering the dining hall cleaning but his smile and gaze stuck with me as well as the warmth we exchanged with our greeting of one another. I also met a man…

29 Day Challenge Observations
Now that I'm nearing the end of my 29 days, I wanted to share some thoughts. The challenge hasn’t proven to be life changing or anything drastic like that (but it HAS been tremendously good). And it has helped me to realize two things. First, I discovered that I already was a giver (albeit small gifts typically). It didn’t take long into the challenge to realize my gifts tend to be things I do for people, rather than items purchased and gifted. Like preparing or sharing a special dinner, or…

a free giving idea...
i got an email yesterday, about the Maxwell House Drops of Good Campaign. you can vote every day for one of several different community centers across the nation and the one that gets the most votes will receive a $50,000 award to use for whatever they need most. it tells you a bit about each of the centers on the site. you can vote once a day and there are 34 days left to vote. i've already voted today : ) if you are interested, here is the link:…

giving something beautiful
Ruth told me to hold that thought because it's fantastic. And It's kinda becoming a mantra for me. Everytime I give something, I want it to be beautiful, meaning that I'm giving with all of my heart.
Well, yesterday I was the cook for the day and today, and today I was shooting. It was a nice calm day, and I tried to be considered and courteous as I could. So, it…

the avengers
I went to the movies to watch the avengers. It was good. Really Hollywood style. I really liked Hulk tho.
Yesterday I started the writing challenge again. So, let's see how it goes. My mom's birthday is tomorrow, and I'm going to my hometown tonight to visit and spend time today with her. Well, today has been a slow day. I am hoping to edit some more of "The goodbye girl" and watching a movie, and then go to Puerto Plata.
Yesterday, as I was at the movies and…

creating a habit.
is well known that you create a habit by doing it from 21 to 24 days straight. Well, I'm trying to modify some of my habits into healthier habits, as giving all that I can. I am not quite where I wanna be. I wanna gain discipline and focus. Multitasking is not always great.
As I'm editing, I fall out of focus and start to think in the other things I need to do, o well, I just interrupt it to do some more other stuff, which is not good. So, what I have been doing, in order to do tasks…

Going Fast - Days 12 & 13
Hello Givers! Hope you are all great!
Yesterday I was introduced to Heather's House, a local org that helps women going through radiation and chemo, items that make them feel pretty - wigs, hats, scarves, special bras for mastectomy patients, etc. I LOVE this! So, I gave.
Today I gave our antique rocking chair to a friend who, after trying everything over two years to get pregnant, finally is! Woo Hoo.
Have a great, giving weekend all!

I just found out about this.
In Scouting, we have many commitments to ourself in order to grow as a human being. One of it is doing a good turn daily without expecting anything out of it. We know we should do it, but sometimes we just don't. Having the personal responsibility and the challenge to do it 29 days straight is a good way to create that habit that I was supposed to in the same place.
Also, with this, I'm making the commitment to write everyday about…

Days 4 and 5
I don't get into town much, so I have been looking at local non-profits on the internet. Was amazed and impressed by the number of wonderful organizations here in my wee town.
Yesterday I was able to donate, via the internet, money to our local food bank.
Today I'm in town so I have been putting the 29 days notecards on mirrors with the message: Look how beautiful you are!
This is a lot of fun. Gives me something to look forward to every day!

First 3 days - this is fun
Day one I hid money in my son's plastic Easter eggs. He's 19 and scraping by.
Day two I left a huge tip for the girl who sold me a scoop of Gelato.
Today, day three, I got to give twice. One, I sent a note to a friend telling her she looked great. (she sent a message back saying she really needed to hear that today) and I gave some money to our local animal shelter.
The fun thing is deciding what to do each day. So much positive energy pouring out as we think of the…

New Member - Day 1 of 1st (ever) 29 Day Giving Challenge
I'll start by saying the past two years have been hard. The past year especially has been unbearable at times. I often scare myself with my own thoughts, overwhelmed with feeling incredibly alone and overcome with being afraid.
Two years ago I was living in Austin. I had an amazing job as a Senior Media Producer for one of the top advertising agencies in the world. I absolutely LOVED video editing and producing. I had been there over five years, had an amazing group of friends, a…
