Days 2-Ten and Eleven Fled!

Good morning, all!  Phew, the weekend fled by and here I am looking at Monday morning (Monday, Monday...so good to me:).  OK, enough of the Mamas and Papas (miss them).  I hope all of you are enjoying a great morning.

On Saturday, John and I had dinner with our friend, Ann, at her lovely home on her amazing deck…

Day 2-Eight

Good morning, all!  I hope you are having a Fabulous Friday!  Yesterday, I gifted my daughter by hand addressing all of her invitations to the Wedding Rehearsal Dinner and to the Wedding.  I say that this is a gift, and not what a mom would normally do for her daughter, because ... well, she's very independent and tends to not want to rely on others.  When she came down for the Fourth, I asked if she wanted to bring…

Day 11 was the start of a new Perspective!

Hello, all!  Well, yesterday morning started out with a drizzle and ended in a downpour!  So, I decided to go out and shop for wedding "things!"   I am in charge of the reception table decorations and favors (and I'm in heaven!).  So, I asked John (my hubby) if he wanted to come and he did.  So, my gift to him was to mindfully listen to his suggestions!  I am such a control freak when it comes to projects and things like that that I am in charge of.  So, simply… Continue

haven't started officially, but working on it :)

Well, I am waiting for a friend who I am going to do 29 Gifts with, but I have it on my mind nonetheless. Especially today.  I am really psyched to start noticing more of all the giving that's there every moment.  Here is an example why...

I started EMDR therapy for a worm phobia among other things, recently (I like to garden, but worm phobia makes it a challenge).  And part of that therapy, besides mindfulness exercises (I did something like the Jon Kabat Zinn mindfulness…

Day 7 - The Need to Challenge Myself!

Day 7 already and so far I don't feel that I have really stretched or challenged my giving potential or personal potential.  I'm spreading the word about the 29-Gifts, I've purchased little gifts, picked up litter, given generous tips to my barista, and helped my husband when he was sick.  But all of these things are things I was already doing before the Challenge, though maybe with a little less mindfulness.  I don't mean to toot my own horn by saying I'm generally a generous…

Last Minute Phone Call

I did two pretty big gives yesterday and then decided neither of them counted. First, I helped my aunt move a mattress to her storage space. It didn't take too long or too much effort, but I drove around the city in a very large circle, using up gas and time. Then, I drove down to Miami in rush hour for a board meeting with a nonprofit organization. I am doing this as volunteer work, of course. The ladies I met with from the nonprofit are extremely nice and we had a great meeting and great… Continue

Day 2, Round 1 - gift of attention

Today, thankfully, I was able to give several times. I had lunch with a friend and spent time listening to her stories (and she listened to mine). I spent time with a student that was having a hard time scanning some pages from a book. I really tried to go beyond what I would normally do to help someone with the scanner. She was really appreciative! I gave my husband a "heads up" about a small gift I got him for Valentine's Day since I knew he would feel bad if I had something for him but he… Continue

Day 1, Round 1 - First Day!

First day...I don't blog or typically join internet forums, discussion lists, etc. But, I was inspired by Cami's book and by the posts on the 29 gifts site. I wanted to join in!

On my first day, I brought a book into work to loan to my co-worker and friend. She mentioned that she wanted to read the book after we discussed it's impact on my life. My coworker seemed really pleased I remembered to bring it.

This week, I'm trying to give with mindfulness.

giving full attention

This week has been an odd one, and nothing much has gone according to plan. Nonetheless, i was able to stick to my intention of giving my full attention to the person/people/project in front of me. It hasn't been easy, mind you, to be mindful every day. and I have certainly slipped more than twice, but it has been a very good experience to focus only on what is in front of me in each moment.

I think our full attention is something we rarely give these days, but it is so precious. Think of… Continue

Live the Dream, Give the Dream

Many are remembering Martin Luther King Jr. today, including almost every prominent news site. The Huffington Post, which both unnerves and amuses me for its larger than life photos and captions, making me want to ask "Why are you yelling at me Huffington Post??" caught my attention today. It features a pronounced black and white photograph of Dr. King walking surrounded by a slew of supporters. What struck me was how small the good reverend appears in the picture. We are used to seeing him… Continue

Guess That's Why They Call It the Present

Today, I had a gift planned and eventually gave something that never needs planning at all.

My oldest nephew and his son came into town last night and are staying with me for the next few days. I’m excited about this opportunity because in a few weeks their family is moving to Japan. While I intend to take advantage of having family in Asia, that won’t be in the near future.

So the gift I had planned was to cook them brunch. I went back and forth on this one though. You’re… Continue
