Catching my breath...

I was doing pretty good with blogging my daily gives until I got wrapped up in taking care of my 4 mo old grandson for 4 weeks. Oh Joy! What a wonderful experience it was. He has been back at home with his parents for a week now, and I sure miss the little guy. Taking on the responsibility of caring for him was a big give to my daughter. For the first few days I tried to be a SuperG (g= grandmother). You know, like a supermom, but with graying hair and less energy. Then I remembered that during… Continue

Days 15, 16 & 17 Family and Memories

My gifts for the past three days have a theme of family and memories. Day 15 - I ordered an external hard-drive for my daughter so she can drag-n-drop backup files from her eMac. Mostly her computer is loaded with family photos. Many photos are of my fifteen week old grandson. I would hate for her to lose any of those precious photos if a hard crash happened. She tries to periodically burn backup copies on CDs. but she has been so busy that she doesn't always have the time. DaContinue

Day 14 - Family

I'm still reporting in a day after --- Yesterday I drove to my daughter's home to pick up my 15 week old grandson. He is going to be spending the next few weeks with me. I will be here at my daughter's home for the next a couple of days to spend time with her and also to get accustomed to the baby's routine before I pack him up and take him home with me. Oh my gosh babies have lots of stuff to pack with them. My daughter is having sitter issues and I've agreed to help her out until she can get t… Continue

Day 13 - Politics and Contributions

Yesterday my husband and I talked about making a political contribution. Lucky for us we think alike politically. So our discussion was really about how much to contribute. Primarily he wanted the t-shirt but we sent more than the minimum contribution to get that. Remember last week when he gave away some of his clothes and I was hoping he would get rid of more? Well, not yet, and now he is getting another tee. Oh geez! Giving online is so easy, pick your campaign or cause, and after a couple of… Continue

Day 12 - Wellness and Empowerment

I'm posting a day late because I lost my Internet connectivity last night. I don't have a new give to report for yesterday either. But, what I did give, is what I have given almost every Saturday for the past three years. Posting an announcement and linking to the current edition of the Carnival of Healing. In August the carnival celebrated its… Continue

Day 11 - A Mother's Love

My daughter reached out to me today. She is going through a difficult patch. She has asked me for help. She had no choice but to ask because she is a new mom and because I'm her mom. Of course I said yes without hesitating. I will give her the help and support she needs. She knew I'd be there for her but I'm sure it didn't make it any easier for her to ask. I am not going to share the details because it is personal. This by far is my easiest give, not because what she asked of me is easy, but be… Continue

Day 10 - Helped Promote a Love Business

I learned about HeartIsHot.com when reading some of the discussions in the forums here. I absolutely loved the combined "Passing Love Forward" and "Re-Gifting" concepts artist Sahara Damore came up with when creating her business. I contacted Sahara and asked her if she could send me some information and an image to possibly write a feature or blog about her glass hearts. She was prompt with her response. She is a very nice gal! My give today was to blog about Sahara and her business, and also a… Continue

Day 9 - Spreading the Word and Snack Bars

I forgot to mention yesterday that I had written about Cami and her 29 Gifts Challenge in my Holistic Healing Newsletter. I am heartened to see that several of my readers have signed on as a result of me spreading the word. I'm going to enjoy reading about everyone's journeys while taking on this challenge. I actually thought even more people would come on board than did. But hey! The economy is looking pretty scary right now. You just nev… Continue

Day 8 - Kisses and Ca$h

Today was my annual eye exam at a clinic two hours away from my home. My gift from the universe was a healthy report. No problems with my eyes. My prescription for allergy eye drops was renewed along with the gift of a free sample bottle. Yea! My husband tagged along with me to the eye clinic because after my eyes are dilated I'm no good for driving. I was very grateful for his company. The eye doc was in a very good mood, mentioning how he was trying to change his eating habits, switching to h… Continue

Day 7 - Uncle Sam

Today is Sept. 15 and my quarterly estimated taxes were due. So I wrote out a hefty check to Uncle Sam this morning. I did not do this reluctantly, but joyously (although I admit I wasn't jumping up and down with joy). My checking account balance is looking rather slim now. Anyway, I tucked a colorful bookmark in the envelope along with my payment as a surprise for whoever opens up the mail at the IRS office. It doesn't serve me or anyone else for that matter to be grumpy about paying my taxes.… Continue

Day 6 - Water

Three days of rain created flash floods in our city. A friend of ours emailed us to say he saw that Burlington was mentioned on CNN for receiving record rainfall but I didn't see it. Water continues to seep into our basement but we are keeping after it with the wet vac and am also running fans to help dry out the situation. Forecast for tomorrow indicates some relief.… Continue

Survival Kits - Gift Idea

Day 5 - Rain Rain Go Away

Yesterday it rained all day. This morning we discovered an inch of water in our basement. My husband got busy gathering up all the soaked throw rugs and began his all day project of sucking up water with the shop vac. We periodically get water in our basement, not every year, but sometimes it will trickle in when the grounds get saturated. But we don't usually get that much water coming in. Last year our next door neighbors installed a sump pump so I think we may have taken the brunt of more wat… Continue

Day 4 - Reiki

I routinely send absentia Reiki to individuals, groups, places, etc. My gift today is serving as a conduit for Reiki being sent to the land regions where Hurricane Ike is headed. Throughout today and into evening I have been directing Reiki energies toward Texas, specifically to Galveston and Houston. My intention is for Reiki to flow to wherever it is most needed, also to go to whomever (news reporters, firemen, rescue workers, res… Continue

Day 3 - Time

Today flew by, I felt time was slipping by me. And toward the end of the day I was feeling a bit panicked that I hadn't given a gift. My day started out to be one of leisure. After breakfast I spent about an hour in conversation with my husband talking. Joe is a retired school teacher, but subs 3 or 4 days a week. But today he didn't get a subbing request so we spent the first hour of our day together talking politics. oh boy! While chatting with him I worked on a crochet project… Continue

Day 2 - Warmth

When I went to bed last night I knew what my gift would be for today. Warmth! Yes, warmth. How did I give a gift of warmth? I did this by packing up four overcoats and a couple of sweaters to take to our local charity closet. I routinely donate clothing each Spring and Fall season to them. I have a rule (one item in, one item out) that I loosely abide by when it comes to enhancing my wardrobe. This means that if I buy an i… Continue

Day 1 - Song For Kids Foundation

Getting Started

It will be a challenge in of itself to give something away each day since I tend to stay holed up at home away from others most days. Over the weekend we shared watermelon with neighboring campers at Backbone State Park. Also, I left some dishes I no longer wanted at the cabin for future campers to make use of. Continue
