29-Day Giving Challenge

Think Positive's Blog (13)

Day ???

I’ve been really side swiped but still so proud to be part of this challenge. Sad to say, but I must stop blogging for now. My very last minutes of free time have been taken up by rescuing Ziggy, a 3 week old kitten. Of course I will continue looking for opportunities to be kind and giving for all my 29 days, however, I simply don’t have time to blog about them at this time. Cami is awesome for making this project happen. I’ve just posted her video on MySpace to help spread the word. Whoo Hoo… Continue

Day 13, 14 and 15 Whoosh I need to catch up.

Going out of my way to do something extra special EVERY day is more challenging than I imagined. That’s why I am sooo grateful for this 29 day “campaign”. It really puts me in the giving frame of mind!

One evening I realized what little time I spend getting to know my neighbors. So I sat on my porch reading and making polite conversation with everyone out for a stroll, parking their car nearby or walking their dog. It was a lovely evening and simply a nice opportunity to be friendly… Continue

Days 11 and 12: Elders and Friends

Saturday I was at street fair when an elderly man tripped and tumbled down near me. It was one of those moments when you knew the person was okay and mostly feeling embarrassed, and perhaps so was his wife. For a split second I thought the decision to walk on would be the best thing for his ego but then quickly realized his ego didn’t need me. His spirit and kind soul needed me. So I stopped and sat on the curb with him for awhile, as though nothing had happened and we were just two friends… Continue

Day 10: Share Your Passion

Today held a momentous concert event in London to honor Mr. Nelson Mandela for his 90th birthday and to raise awareness for his charity 46664 fighting AIDS. This is a human rights issue that I have become very passionate about. So for my gift, I shared my passion with the hope that others will also be inspired to do something that brings about positive change. I set up the concert broadcast to be viewed in the conference room at my office by all employees interested and anyone passing by the… Continue

Day 9: Give Books, Give Knowledge

I donated a bunch of books to my local library. My taste is very eclectic so I’m sure someone will learn something new.

Day 8: Put Love into Food and Share It

Working until 7pm most nights, I’m not usually the one who makes dinner during the week. When I get home night after night to find food already prepared I am truly blessed. Today I went to work extra extra early so I can get home and make a fabulous dinner in return. This meant getting up at 4:30 am! Many cultures believe if we put love into our food, by thinking beautiful thoughts while preparing it, then the love is felt by those who eat the meal. That’s my plan for today’s giving challenge.

Day 7: Music is the Language of the Universe

I’ve never met a person who doesn’t love music. Cold Play’s new cd has been on rotation in my car since it came out last week. I really love it. As I made my weekly trip through the Starbucks drive through, Austin – a darling young man who is always so friendly with me - noticed the cd cover and we started chatting about how much he loves this band. When I asked what he thought about the new cd, he didn’t own it yet and was waiting for rent to be paid first before he could buy it. On my way… Continue

Day 6: Water Aid

With much of my professional life currently focused on the flood crisis in the Midwest, I’ve been thinking a LOT about people around the world who do not have access to safe drinking water. So today I made a point of finding an NGO doing good work internationally and gave a contribution. Water Aid was the organization I chose because their mission specifically addresses the needs of women and children. If interested you can find out more at…

Day 5: Just Be Yourself and Try a Little Harder Than Usual.

I honestly did not gift anything special today. When expressing my concern about this to a friend she was kind to remind me of various little things I did through out the day that were generous or thoughtful. Even so, tomorrow I will try to consciously give twice. I do think it is very important to make some extra effort.

Day 4: Enjoy Being A Kid

It was a busy day which included a birthday party for my good friend's daughter who is 2 years old. Her other daughter, Larisa, turned 13 this year and has grown up as much in our home as her own. They live 2 doors away and it is both exciting and sad to witness her becoming a teenager. The days of running through sprinklers and hanging upside down on the furniture are just about over. Having the opportunity to spend some time with her during little sis’ party was something I’ve been looking… Continue

Day 3: Spare Some Change

The day was off to a very rough start and my mood was less than enthusiastic and outgoing. So I decided not to wait for that special opportunity to present itself because it just might not appear today. I pulled up to my favorite coffee shop which is a treat for me on Fridays only. Parking is limited and most people use meter spaces on the street, parking for 5 minutes, run in for a cup and off they go again. I took a pile of quarters from my car ashtray and filled up all 6 meters on my side of… Continue

Day 2: Being nice to people you don’t like. Part 1 and 2

There is a woman in my office who has sadly failed at creating positive relationships. In many ways she is a kind and loving individual who cares about the plight of humanity. Unfortunately she does not realize that her frantic, disorganized, and sometimes crude behavior is often offensive and damaging to those around her including our business. So when she “falls down” nobody offers to pick her up. Today I learned that her email signature had some significant typos which made her look very… Continue

Day 1: Yay! This is VERY exciting.

So far I love this challenge because I have been actively aware all day of opportunities to connect with people. My first gift happened after I drove past a man standing at the bus stop near my house. He was looking very distressed. Even though we were on a residential street and he was obviously dressed for an important occasion (suit and tie in California is almost unheard of) I was nervous about stopping so kept driving instead. But the image of him standing there kept haunting me, so I… Continue
