Letters - When I taught CCD the week, I brought with me a pack of neon paper and an idea from this site. (thanks CathyR). I asked my class to think about the soldiers and the families of Fort Hood and include them in their prayers. Then we talked about Sacrifice, Courage, Bravery and Service. I asked the kids to think about the soldiers and the effects of their service on their families - children, husbands, wives, parents, cats, dogs, etc. Then I asked them to make cards to send to: Soldiers and Families of Fort Hood - from: Kids from New Jersey. I also shared this idea with another CCD teacher - who is in college and teaching CCD for the first time. (He is also brave.) At the end of class, we read some of them and we were floored at their messages. They were so genuine and beautiful from a bunch of 6th graders in New Jersey. So yesterday morning, I took a picture and mailed them away. (I will load the picture later.)
Lunch - Next, I took my team to lunch to thank them for all of their hard work, dedication and friendship. I have been lucky enough to work with them for years and it so great to watch them develop professionally and personally. Plus they have taught me so much as well. Now on to the hug….
Hug - I have never hugged anyone at work. I am not a hugger at work. The closest I have ever come is pat on the back or a football punch on the shoulder. The recipient -- Someone came to me to tell me she had a job for a great resource and wonderful friend of mine who was losing his job that day. Times are hard.
