29-Day Giving Challenge

Kathy called me today and asked if she could come spend a few hours with us. With the heat in the Mid-West everyone is staying cooped up in the house. We always love to have Kathy spend time with us. After she arrived she was telling me this story about Pink Foot. Pink Foot is a monster that scared her in her house and she had to catch it and put it in a cage. She went into great detail of how she was able to sneak up on the monster, grab him and wrestle with him as she placed him in the cage and locked the door. I was going along with her story and I said to her we can send some cantaloupe home for you to feed Pink Foot. Kathy came over to me to scrutinize my face and finally said, Grandma, Pink Foot is not real. We all actually laughed out loud. To quote Dawn, silly grandma, monsters are for kids.

Kathy went to Grandpa and asked for a cheese burger. What to do, what to do? We drove her to Wendy’s, me in my hat and Kathy in her hat and ordered lunch. It was really nice to be out of the house. Kathy was very excited to get there and realize that Stephen, her step brother was there working. She even got to see him and hug him since he was on the floor when we walked in. Stephen asked if sometime soon could he bring his girlfriend over to meet us. She wants to meet his grandparents. I told him anytime.

When we returned home Kathy and I cuddled up on the couch and watched Brother Bear. Much too soon it was time to drive Kathy home.

I spent time with Kathy and time on the phone with my oldest grandson. I also got to talk to my son, the teacher.

I felt good enough for church which always makes my Sunday special. I love giving hugs and seeing friends. The lessons and hymns always brings me peace.

I noticed one of my friends was having a bad time with her feet. I asked what was wrong. She has diabetes and the side effect of neuropathy. I asked if she had ever used a tuning fork on her feet. She had not but is willing to let me treat her feet. We made an appointment.

Paul had a commitment to go see a couple of ladies this evening. His regular partner for these visits is out of town so he asked me to go. Isn’t wonderful that my gift to my husband of accompanying him on his official visits gives me so much joy. I met a new lady and we had a wonderful conversation.

The other lady is one of my best friends here in town. I see her quite often since she doesn’t drive and I take her to run her errands. But she wasn’t expecting me, just the two men. It was fun visiting with her.

I spoke to my son, the Fed Ex driver. I also got to talk to my youngest grandson. When Aidan hears my voice he is always happy. He tries to grab the phone and keep it for himself.

Today was chemo and a visit with my Doctor. Dr. is very pleased with my numbers. He did a cat scan of my lungs the other day and the results are that my lungs are clean and healthy. He ordered the scan just to be sure. He told me that first week would be my worst week with chemo and that was a piece of cake. He is always surprised at my blood pressure. He asked my secret, I told him that I meditated and that Paul and I are Reiki Masters. He told us to continue using all of our tools for they seem to be doing a small miracle keeping me so healthy and STRONG LIKE BULL. He supports the Reiki and the meditation and since my blood pressure was 121/62 he said that is definite proof that I am doing something right.

I get to the Cancer Center at nine and leave by three. I play on my ipad and Paul does his homework. I always do an hour meditation in the chair. The chair is just a recliner. I stay there while I get chemo, although there is a craft section and a jigsaw puzzle set up to work with if you get bored in the chair. It is a 40 minute drive each way so we are out of the house 8 hours every other Monday. Paul and I always pack a lunch full of goodies to munch on while we are there. The nurses are wonderful so it isn't really a bad day. I make friends every time I go there. I love sharing smiles with other patients and nurses and of course my doctor. Today I met a sweet little fellow who is exactly 20 years older than I am, we share the same birthday.

I sent updates to all of my children. I shared smiles and laughter and compliments. I made new friends.

The Universe reminds me that just as clouds make a sunset outstanding, challenges bring outstanding blessings. I am grateful for the beauty that surrounds me.

I am so glad you are doing so well.  I love what you say in the last sentence.  I am going to write that in my book or quotes, poems, scripture, etc.  I love you and so glad you are doing well.  It doesn't surprise me you make friends wherever you go.  Just like this site.  Your smile is a magnet to friends.  And you can relate with most everyone you meet.  Love and prayers.  deb

Wonderful post, and WONDERFUL NEWS!!  Your granddaughter reminds me of my son, and his amazing imagination!  How blessed we are to have small people around us to remind us that we can find joy and wonder all around us!  I am so happy to be joining all of you great people in this journey and feel inspired by your stories.  Hugs from me to you!

Thanks for the update Ellie.  It is wonderful to hear that things are going so well in your treatment.  You are the strongest, most loving person I know and you are in my thoughts and prayers.  Cathy is such a sweetheart and it is wonderful that her older brother is wanting to share his "gramma" with his girlfriend.  I love your statement at the end. and have added it to my quote journal.  Love and Blessings to you!
