I've never had a blog or website before so this is interesting putting my thoughts down like this. I just finished reading 29 Gifts and it really made me appreciate how small simple gifts are ones that make interaction with people so enjoyable, and it is so true that gifts don't have to be material things - just talking or listening or laughing with friends is a gift. Yesterday, my friend and I went out for a coffee break from work but ended up getting ice cream instead. My friend paid for both of us and I enjoyed it so much more because of his kind gesture and recognizing the idea that giving and receiving is something that connects all of us. Later that day, I was browsing through some online shopping websites that sells discounted items ( I'm a sucker for sales) and found a voucher for a new restaurant in L.A. I usually just look at items I think that I will enjoy but then realized that my first gift could be buying this for my friend. She has been living in L.A. for a couple years now and although we used to be the best of friends in middle school and high school, we kind of drifted apart when we started college. We're not on bad terms at all, but we just rarely talk and haven't seen each other in more than a year. I really hope she enjoys the dinner and I hope this little gift lets her know that I still care about her. It's really easy to lose touch with people- I can't believe I'm too lazy to even make phone calls nowadays. I want to change this about myself and keep better in touch with people in my life.
