Day 1
I found this website while I was at work on my break and decided to give it a try. I had no idea what I would do or give but I also wanted to see if it would come naturally. I didn't want to be stressed out and worry that I have one more thing to do on my plate. So when I got off work Monday morning at 7 a.m. I walked into the house and was greeted by my two daughters who were very cheery and excited to see me. That felt so good. Normally my husband takes care of getting the kids ready for school and I go off to bed since I had worked all night but this morning I let my husband sleep in and I got my 12 year old off to the bus stop and dropped off my 5 year old to her kindergarten class. It was fun to connect with the kids and ironically I seemed to get a little extra pep in me and didn't feel tired at all. When I got home I crawled into bed and snuggled up to my husband and our 9 week old son. My husband was so appreciative for letting him sleep in. He had the day off work and I told him that I would nap and tend to the baby. I told my husband to go off and do something for himself. Sometimes I come home in a cranky mood in the mornings and by being positive I received such a different reaction from the family and it felt really good. My gift was letting my husband sleep in and spending time with my girls in the morning. It's not much of a gift but my family seemed to really enjoy the extra time with me.
Day 2
I went to the grocery store and walked down the baby aisle and left some formula coupons there. I usually receive tons of coupons in the mail for baby formula and toss out since I'm nursing but instead I decided to take them to the store with me. I put the corresponding coupon with the formula and I hope it helps the next person who is purchasing it since formula can be very expensive. It doesn't seem much but just thinking about it puts a smile on my face hoping that someone saw the coupons and were excited to use them.
Day 3
My friend at work had locked her keys in her car and she was planning on calling her husband to come and bring her the spare key. They live 45 minutes away and her husband would be driving in the dark. I told her that I would let her use my AAA card membership. I know that you're not supposed to do that but it felt like the right thing to do. The AAA service truck came within 30 minutes and was able to unlock her car and she was so relieved that her husband didn't have to drive in. I'm starting to feel that when you do good things for others that you will receive good things in return as well even if it's something as simple as happiness. My husband has even noticed that I seem to be in a better mood. It's only day 3 and I'm starting to feel like a different person. The biggest thing I've noticed is that I'm worrying less often. I think by taking the focus off of me and worrying about my life has me becoming a better person. I know I still have a lot of work and growth ahead of me but for once I feel like I'm on the right path.
Day 4
About a year ago I joined a community called freecycle.org and it is a yahoo community that helps recycle items to keep them from ending up in our landfills. Usually I look for the offers and not the wanteds. So instead I looked exclusively at the wanteds and found someone that needed maternity clothes. The person even said that they don't have transportation to pick up the clothes and hoping that someone could drop off the items. I happened to have a bag of maternity clothes that I'm getting rid of and sent her an e-mail offering her the clothes and that I could even drop them off to her on Saturday. She responded back and was very happy for my offer. It feels really good to think of others. I'm just letting things come naturally when it comes to giving and not forcing it. I'm really glad that I found this website.
