29-Day Giving Challenge

Day 1
Today was the perfect day to start my 29 gifts. It was actually quite silly how it worked but my grandmother and mother have been looking all over the place, I mean everywhere for this cleaner that they love. I actually found it as I shopped a new market and was so excited I went there right away to surprise them. One would think I gave them a million bucks! I got tons of hugs and kisses, just for cleaner!

Day 2
Today I gave a co-worker her sweater that she accidently left behind in a meeting. I took the time to track her down and return it. Also, I helped my daughter type a paper for school.

Day 3
Today I sent a card to a friend who I know has been having a hard time at work. She is someone who I don't always see eye to eye with but I thought by sending her some good wishes it would help me change my outlook and perspective I have. I also went out of my way to help an outside worker meet with a student she needed to at school.

Day 4: The Coolest Gift
As a school social worker I truly can say I give and give every single day for the betterment of students and families. This challenge is important for me to go that extra mile. To do things for people with intent and for the purpose of wanting to give them a gift. Today I decided to take one of my students for a makeover. She is a 15 year old girl who comes from very little. They have no car, she has very poor clothing, and unfortunatly struggles with some hygiene issues. After spending some time with her the day before as she cried that kids at the lunch table continue to make fun of her and she was feeling so down on herself I thought I would treat her for a little pick me up. I took her out of school and we went to the hair salon. She had a deep conditioning treatment as her hair was in a really dry rough state and then an awesome haircut. She had a smile that stretched for miles. When we got done she said, " Mrs.K. Do you know I have never been to a hair place before to get my haircut, my mom always would just trim it and I never went somewhere before to get it cut". She then pulled out a little camera and asked me if I would take her picture so she could remember! How priceless is that! It reminds me that something I so take for granted can mean the world for someone else.....

Day 5
I have been on my daughter lately about running late in the mornings. We always get to the bus stop just in time! This morning was no exception. I got to come back home because I was going to a workshop for work and noticed she left her homework folder behind in her rush. I was frustrated and knew I should just let her feel this one out, she needs to learn her lesson! But, I made a choice as my gift I would go out of my way and drop it off to her at school so she would have what she needed today. I also made time to have a nice lunch with my co-worker who I enjoy spending time with!

I am really enjoying this journey and look forward to each day and what gift can I give next!!

wow what great giving! I love that you have been really going above your normal giving and opening yourself up to giving beyond the normal things. taking the student to get her hair done, going out of your way for your daughter and a co-worker and cleaner for mom and grandmom. these are all wonderful gives!
