My father-in-law is traveling this week, so I invited my mother-in-law over for dinner tonight. She still isn't settling into our town (they moved here from the opposite coast about two years ago), so she would otherwise spend this time all alone at home. She isn't an adventuresome eater -- at all -- so I made sure to cook something she'd eat. In fact, I went for a "special treat" meal for everyone: breakfast for dinner. YUM!
I also took the kids to vote with me (town elections), which I think is a fun way for them to learn civic involvement. The poll workers always love it, too. (They're almost all local senior volunteers, so they like the wee ones.) This time, I got a nice compliment about how well I explained the process to the kids, too. That was so nice to hear!
Also, I called a friend to talk about an auction donation I'm working on and having trouble with. This might not sound like a gift, but I know how frustrating it would be if I didn't warn her until it was too late to fix/replace my mistake. I'm going to make a second attempt, but we also came up with a different (even better?) plan. I even had time to go to the store to buy the materials I need, and I'm excited to get started!
