Today my youngest was home sick with allergies, so we spent the day together. I was able to give him extra attention he doesn't usually get. He got to pick a donut at the grocery and we played a couple games together too. I also helped him with a school project. As part of English class, he is supposed to read several books on his own and of his own choosing. It is on the honor system and he is taking it quite seriously. He is a reluctant reader. I was too at his age (now I am an avid reader), so I understand the struggle and effort. Tonight he asked if I would read aloud to him from his book because it would seem less boring that way. Since he was over half-way through and I had seen him reading on his own today, I felt that would be okay. So we read for an hour and I helped him put a significant dent in the pages to be read. I love reading aloud to my kids. It is a great way to connect.

I miss those reading together times...it sounds like you made the day pretty special for your youngest. I hope he feels better tomorrow.
