Today I found my opportunity to give while reading the NY Times
. There was an article about the lack of micronutrients in the diets of pregnant women in poorer countries. Here's the article: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/03/opinion/03kristof.html?em
Without micronutrients such as folic acid and iron, babies are born with life-threatening deformities such as holes in their skulls. Getting micronutrients into the food supply is extremely cheap and sustainable--it just needs to be done. Project Healthy Children (http://projecthealthychildren.org/index.php
) works with other non-profits and the governments of developing countries to ensure that their populations as a whole and expecting mothers especially are healthy. So, today, my gift is to them in the form of a donation. It feels good to get involved, even in such a limited way, with part of the news I read about every day.
