My gift today was spending time with my family!
I live about 2 hours away from my parents and brother and don't get to make it up here as often as I'd like because of busy schedules. My older sister lives on the opposite coast and don't get to see her as often as I'd like either :(
Los Angeles traffic can be a horror and this weekend was suppose to be the worst because of Carmageddon (10 miles of a major freeway closed), however I made plans to visit my newly pregnant cousin, her husband and my 2 year old nephew. I must say I lucked out and didn't hit any traffic- made it there in a little over 2 hours. Had lunch there and played with my nephew for hours. I know he loved it as much as I did. We played hide-and-go-seek and I pushed him around in his toy car. Basically just goofed off and had a blast. My cousin was telling me how exhausted she has been getting with a full day of work, being pregnant and then having a very energetic little boy at home. I know that she was happy to see me playing with him and giving her a little bit of time to relax. My nephew seemed to be having a great time, however, I think I won the cake in this one. After lunch I helped with the dishes. I had a blast and it was sad to leave. I promised to come visit more often and plan on keeping that promise.
From there I went to my parent’s house. Another hour away but no traffic :) I knew my parents were tired from their 3 week trip to Europe so I didn't want my mom to feel obligated to cook. My brother and I picked up pizza for them. We played card and just hung out. The TV never turned on, which is a rarity in their house. Also it's rare that my brother ever leaves his room (why would he w/ his computer, TV, video games and ipad in there) but we got him to spend most of the evening with us and playing games with my dad on his ipad. Bonding is bonding :)
My sister's in NY, I'm in SD and next week my brother is moving out. I know it's hard for my parents to have an empty house and so I know they love whatever time we do spend with them at home. My mom always tells me that she would be the happiest person in the world if I moved back home. Of course that's not possible since my job is in SD but I know these visits mean a lot to her so I'm glad that I can oblige :)
Excited to start the week tomorrow with this new energy the last past few days has given me :)
Night all!
