29-Day Giving Challenge

Yesterday, I had brunch with friends, but before going to meet with them I had to stop at the ATM. My bank is right next to a bakery that makes fabulous pastries, so I stopped there beforehand and bought them several of my favorite cookies. I put the cookies in a pretty little cherry blossom print gift bag and presented them while we waited for our table at a cafe next door. "Why are you giving us a present?" they asked. I told them it was because I was at the bakery and thought of them. They were tickled.

I forgot to mention all the gifts that have been coming my way! This month, a lot of extra money has flowed to me -- I had this feeling at the new year that this year might be less of a financial struggle...it's definitely started. Unexpected payments, things I've listed have sold, and the other day my dad sent me some money he had set aside for me after receiving a large paycheck. When I called him to say thank you, he said, "We always do so much for your sister, but we never do anything for you. I feel bad about that. I wanted to give you something." It's impossible to explain what that meant to me. The money is great, but his recognition of that fact was the true gift.

Things have been up and down for me, though. You can't expect to quickly bounce back, I guess. Although most of the time I feel positive about things moving forward, there have been lots of moments where I just want to pull the covers over my head and cry. He was my best friend. Part of me knows that this is important -- a time to remember who I am and what I want. I know what I need to do -- exercise, meditate, dance, see friends, work hard, sleep enough, eat well, laugh. So I'm working on it, slowly but surely.

Today is day 5. I've been so fortunate to have made a really great friend here, but she's been under the weather. I just got a Ben & Jerry's offer from Groupon for $5 off $10 worth of sweets at a mall near her house. Perhaps an excursion is in order! Otherwise, she'll be getting a big container of chicken noodle soup and some flowers. This girl has restored my faith in the importance of female friendships. This is the smallest gesture.

Thank you for being here to listen.

Deb - thank you for always leaving such positive comments -- and hugs to you too! By "here" I meant the city I live in, but YES, good friendships here on the website as well. Have a wonderful Sunday, and may many great things come your way.
