Day 4 - Tried to give blood...

Sometimes it's the thought the counts, right? When the Red Cross called last week to see if I could come back in to donate blood I thought perfect timing! I've been dodging their calls for the last 5 months or so and the 29-day challenge is just the kick in the butt I needed to go back. I really don't love giving blood but there is always a need and it is such a simple way to make a big difference. So, I made my appointment, increased my water and vitamin intake, psyched myself up to go...and then got sent home with a pamphlet about iron poor blood and band aids on two poked fingers. Ah, well. BUT I made an appointment for NEXT Monday and I'll be ready for them this time!

So in lieu of giving blood today, I'll give a tip to those who give blood regularly or to those who are thinking about it: Drink LOTS of water in the 48 hours leading up to the appointment. A friend of mine who gives blood every 8 weeks passed this tip along to me and it made a big difference. When I'm really well hydrated it takes less time, is more comfortable and I feel better after. I'll be adding some iron rich foods to that regiment for next week...

Good for you for trying Marie. The same thing happened to me last time and I have been afraid to go back. Thanks for the tip on the water. Maybe I will try again in a week or two. Hugs,Cathy
