29-Day Giving Challenge

Fell off the wagon for a couple days there...not that I didn't "give" anything, but...it wasn't really an "above-and-beyond," kinda thing. I "gave" my daughter a nice Dinner of Her Choice the night before she left for a week's vacation...and yesterday I "gave" myself permission to relax a little in the evening and not work all night, like I usually do.

Today, before I could even think of what to give, I had the opportunity to help out a mom at the thrift store...she didn't speak english and was having a hard time getting it all together to pay for what she had chosen to buy...and at the same time that the cashier was taking things OFF her pile, saying, "you don't have enough for that," her little girl kept putting a book up on the counter and I ASSUME she was saying she wanted it, and I ASSUME the mother was saying "put it back, I don't have enough money," because she kept sliding it away from her stuff on the counter. I asked the cashier how much the book was. It was a quarter. I told her I'd give her the quarter when I paid for my stuff, just let the little girl have the book. So, she did, and I did, the mother said nothing, but the girl hugged her book close as they left the store. So, yay :-)

Til tomorrow,
Bettye

part of this challenge for me was recognizing all the giving that i do as a matter of course, as well as thinking of new and different ways to give. sometimes i have to think about my gives and sometimes they just present themselves out of the clear blue sky, like your paying for the little girl's book at the thrift store. it was nice of you to give your daughter her choice of dinner. Hugs, Dawn

Sounds like the little one was happy ... plus no more struggle of "book up, book down ..." perhaps the mother didn't know what to think of your giving.

Glad you gave to yourself last night. I did some giving to myself today. We all need that ... I think it refreshes us and makes us more able to give (good attitudes) to others.
