29-Day Giving Challenge

So I have a question for you all- If you're giving a gift to someone and they ask you why you're doing this, what would your response be?

Yesterday was a pretty relaxing day.  I caught up with work and school at home and then went to dinner w/ a really good friend.  I met my friend Manasi about 2 years ago through a mutual friend.  We didn't click right away and it took awhile for me to be able to get close to her.  She is very shy and reserved, however, when you get to know her she is quite the opposite.  I'm glad that I pushed my way though her walls and gotten to know her so well.  Last summer we traveled through Europe together.  The trip was absolutely AMAZING and we bonded so much more.  She moved to AZ a year ago and 6 months ago back to California.  Both of us were stoked that we would be able to spend more time together but that didn't work out as planned.  She has a very demanding job that keeps her in the office over the weekends.  There were plenty of times that we had tentative plans to meet but she had to cancel because of work.  She always feels really bad and I hate that she feels that way.  My gift yesterday was to ensure her that I understand that things come up and that us not seeing each other as often only makes the time we get to spend that much greater.  However, I was determined to see her yesterday and it worked out! We had a great dinner and I think we both were equally as happy that we were able to make it work.  When the check came I was planning on paying for dinner.  Of course she was not ok w/ this but I told her to please let me take care of this.  She asked why and I said because I want to and I'm grateful we got to see each other.  I struggled saying, "this is my gift to you" because I thought she would think it was silly and not let me pay.  Basically after me grabbing her credit card I was able to pay.  I'm wondering what others would do in this situation.  Would you say, "this is my gift to you"?

Today I'm going to a Zumba class with a good friend.  I'm going to pick her up and then we are going to grab dinner after.  My gift today is going to be a card thanking her for everything she has done for me and a Vegan book I picked up yesterday.  Her and her boyfriend are trying to be a Vegan once a week.  She's a huge cook but it's not always the healthiest.  I'm hoping these recipes will give her some ideas
