29-Day Giving Challenge

day 7: being fully present in the moment...day 8: making a card...day 9: self-care...day 10: helping a friend...

Where does the time go??

day 7: being fully present in the moment...On Sunday I picked up my 3 year old grandson for our
bi-weekly visit to see his dad, my son, who has 11 months left of a 3 year prison sentence. Since we visit every two weeks, that could not be my gift. However, I was tired from the previous week's happenings, so I made a conscious decision to be up and fully present with anything and everything my grandson wanted to do on our 150 mile round trip. This included singing, telling silly stories (over & over & over & over), laughing A LOT, and, once out of the car, hopping, jumping, skipping, and running all the while pretending to be various animals who make ALL kinds of noises. Needless to say, a good time was had by all, and I even forgot how tired I was:)

day 8: making a card...one of my students finished a 6 year reading program last week for which she was sent a completion certificate and personal letter by the reading professional who developed the program. I handmade a card to match the beautifully presented certificate for all the teachers to sign to congratulate my student. It was an artistic and worthwhile endeavor, even though It took me the better part of 2 hours to create it.

day 9: self-care...I listened to my tired self and decided to go to bed as soon as I got home from work. Yep, I was in bed by 6PM, read until 7PM, then went to sleep. My daughter called me around 8:30...we had a nice chat...I went back to sleep until my son got home from work at 9:30PM...we had a nice chat...and then I slept through the night. Ah-h-h...a gift to myself:)

day10: helping...One of my teacher friends had a rough day so I just spent 90 minutes listening to her woes and helping her find some materials she had misplaced. Another friend actually found the materials...happy ending...and the talking/listening helped my friend leave work with a laugh and a smile...good stuff for all.
